Stefan, Thanks! I can wear it but sits a little high on the head (see below), at least to me. I can't recall when J. Heinr. Ita went out of business but I know they were still operational in 1964. They were a well known / respected company but I rarely come across their hats. This hat is a later example but still very well made.

It looks very good on you, Steve. Makes me think about these vintage pictures where the men all seem wear their hats quite high on their heads. I wonder if that was maybe done just for the photographs or if it was actually the way hats were worn (and if it was would they wear smaller sizes than they were to our standards). No way of knowing I guess. I like that wide ribbon especially.

On another note: this one I posted earlier in the Homburg Nation Thread, but it belongs here as well. Lembert homburg in light grey (or hellgrau as the label would have it). Size 58 (but with a corkstrip front and back fits me very well), 6 cm bound brim and 11,5 cm crown in front. Sweatband also in grey. I was quite pleased with this one I must say (especially considering what I paid for it).

Stefan, You see a lot of Soft Felt Hats being worn that way (Stiff Felts even more so) in street scenes so it wasn't just for staged photos. Actually you see a range here too. I switch around -> low, medium, high! :)

Stefan, Fantastic! It's one of the earlier Lembert hats I have seen. Super!

Thanks for the information, Steve. Hadn't thought about the street shots. It does makes sense from a photographer's point of view to ask customers to raise their hats a bit, just to get some more light on the face.

Here's another one I picked up last friday on a hat hunting round. Though technically not a German or Austrian hat because it orginates from Switzerland I think I will be forgiven for this bending of the rules. "Sedeco" homburg in black by Zimmermann&Co Hutfabrik, Bern. Size 56 or 57 (no label inside the hat). Unreeded sweatband that was reattached at some point, text embossed on the sweat. Unlined with cloth crown patch. Wide ribbon with boxpleat bow. Brim at 6 cm and crown 11 cm at the pinch. With a wind trolley that seems to be damaged. I think this one is from the thirties.
I seem to have taken a shine to these early hats lately. Actually came across another one of these Hückel Standard hats I posted recently, but this time in a longhair finish. Didn't bring it because it was too small for me (and suffering from not-buyers remorse now).

Steve, thanks. I had this down for myself as dating from the sixties. Is that about right you think?
Stefan, I think it's from around the mid 1950s. Lembert was a large operation (felt to finished hat) in this time period. Now they have less than 10 employees but still have the factory building. All the machines just sitting there in working order. It's really amazing.

Super! It's great to see older ones like this one. I don't have much information on Swiss hat companies. The old wind cords have loops (not buttons) so probably not too damaged.

Steve, thanks. Good to know it was meant to be this way. I'll stay away from it anyway; given its age the rubber is likely to have dried out and lose its stretch.

Thanks for the dating. I saw a few films on youtube about Lembert. They may have downsized but at least they're still around.

I think it's more prevalent 1930s and earlier. Also it comes down to personal taste.

That is a great picture. Makes me wonder who the salesman was: the man with the homburg or the young man with the bowler.

This is one of my favorite Homburgs posted of late. I love the grey on grey, and that sweat, oh wow. I'm in lust over this one!

Hch. Klipper Offenbach a. M. "Extra Quality", measures 58.5cm, Crown 5 1/2 inches, Brim 2 inches, 156 grams, Wool or Wool Blend, no paper label, Seller dated 1905. This Melone has a really interesting Form and Brim work with a 1 3/4 inch Ribbon / Band. I will take a photo wearing it later today so you can see the overall effect. Unfortunately there is some damage to the front of the ribbon but it's 100+ years old. I think the seller's (belonged to great grandfather) dating is accurate.

I was able to find a small help wanted advertisement for Hch. Klipper & Comp in the Intelligenz-Blatt der freien Stadt Frankfurt, Part 4 (1862). I am also waiting on some more information from the Seller.
