Brown Himel Kensington . . . My New Favorite Jacket

Superfluous

I have enjoyed my black RMC Buco J-100 for several years, and I was generally disinclined to purchase a brown cafe racer. I had a preconceived notion that a cafe racer should be black, and a brown cafe racer seemed slightly discordant. However, as time passed and I viewed the incredible brown cafe racers posted here on a regular bases, I warmed up to the concept.

I have long admired Himel's Kensington jackets, but the lack of webbing underneath the sleeve zippers was a deal breaker (without webbing, the zippers will destroy my watches). The cuff area was also too tight for me. I chatted with Dave about these issues and he assured me that he could widen the cuffs and add webbing. Having resolved the two prior obstacles, I went for it.

The brown shinki horsehide, hardware, construction, stitching and other details are all stellar. However, the fit is the overriding attribute that propels this jacket to the top of my list. Dare I say, it fits like a glove.

Many thanks Dave for another winner!

Now, bring on the Winter.

Craig, that is by far and away your best fitting jacket!

No offense intended, but in my opinion, you seem to like your jackets slightly oversized based on the pics you've posted.

This one really does fit like a glove. Looks great on you as well! I really wish I didn't want so many Himels!

You already had the most impressive collection of leather jackets I have seen, but this one really takes your lineup to the next level!

That is a perfect fit SF. The CR pattern is one that looks simple but I suspect it is deceivingly difficult to make. The first thing I always look for is concruency at the chest zips. These look to be perfect. Very nice color too. Looks like he dialed the sleeve lengths in perfectly for you as well. Beautiful jacket indeed!

That made me laugh out loud, that line. I often look at yours and think wow, he really likes the fashionable, one size too small look. You would say this..:D

Congratulations. I don't see how that CR could possibly fit any better and can see how it is your favorite.

Really no need for me comment here, you know enough to know that everything about it is a textbook example of how a jacket should look and fit. Congrats, SF!

Such a lovely jacket, Himel does a beautiful job. Excellent addition to your truly impressive collection. The only thing that sort of bugs me about the Kensington is how the collar never seems to lie flat around the neckline. It juts straight up and encircles the neck without really seeming to touch it anywhere, so the head and neck rise up from out of the jacket almost like how a tortoises neck comes out of its shell. No one else ever seems to notice or care but me so I'm probably insane, but it stands out to me on otherwise perfect jackets, as Himels tend to be.
