Shoe repair experiences?

I have this pair of beautiful pumps that I would love to be able to wear, but the insole and bottom are starting to separate :(

Does anyone have any successful experience repairing shoes? I'm thinking of taking them to a shoe repair shop becuase I don't want to mess them up trying myself. How much did it cost you?

Hello, I may be able to repair the shoes, but I would need to see what they look like, how they are made before being able to judge that they are repairable and what to charge for the repair. Can you take a few pictures and post them here and also describe what material is used? It may be near impossible if the shoes are not made of real leather, as plastic and man made compounds do not repair very well.

I've sent many pair of men's dress shoes back to Allen Edmunds for recrafting. The price was over $100 and they do come like new. I know Alden does the same and a company out of NYC called B. Nelson will do any brand. Find their web site on your search engine.

I second the recommend for B Nelson in New York. I've used Alden and B Nelson to rebuild my shoes. As far as I know Alden only does men's shoes, but B. Nelson absolutely does nice work on women's shoes. It's run by a guy named Nick Valenti, who is super nice and helpful. Check out the website for prices.

Hi, I has a similar problem with a pair of driving moccasins a few years back, when I was living in Florence. Took them to a local cobbler and he cemented the sole where it detached. Didn't cost me more than 20 or 30€.
If something like that was to happen now, however (I don't live there anymore and don't know of any affordable cobbler in my area), I would try repairing them myself. I've used this product called Shoegoo before and it works wonders. Good luck.

The other day the sole was starting to separate from the toe of an old pair of my shoes and I said something about taking them to a shoe repair place and a colleague looked at me like I was crazy. "Just buy a new pair," he said. His point being that shoe discount stores have such low prices that the time and expense of actually repairing something is hardly justified.
My jaw dropped. It may be a generational thing. I don't know.

It would make sense if the new shoes that cost less than a repair would be the same quality as the ones to be replaced.
Which is hardly ever the case, not with shoes nor with anything else for that matter.

I had a pair of Stacy Adams resoled three times wearing them all over Asia while stationed there. The key is a good cobbler and decent quality shoes to start with. I later discovered sole protectors as well as changing shoes taps often. The sole protectors work great in helping your soles last, but they do add thickness to your sole.

Question: I have a pair of Carolina logger boots, and there's a Red Wing Shoes store in my town. Would Red Wing recobble of a pair of logger boots despite them not being their brand?
