Love 'em or hate 'em (I'm firmly in the love 'em camp), the newsboy cap is so much a part of America's hat history that I just had to try my hand at making one. One of the things I loved about this endeavor is that, aside from the sweatband and thread, the material cost amounted to the two dollars I spent for a thrift store sports coat. Not nearly the pressure involved as when working with, and possibly ruining, a sixty dollar beaver felt body.

I just received my Stetson Gatsby, purchased as a "cashmere blend". Cracked me up when I received it to see the cashmere part is 10%. At least the other 90 is wool and it cost me $20, would have been upset if I had paid the full retail of $70. A good throwaway cap for $20, cheaper than a New Era ball cap.
Pff, marketers. "Whaddaya' mean it ain't cashmere? See 'dat hair? No, no, 'da one next to it. Cashmere! Blends in nicely, don't it?"

Cheers. I've been experimenting with its tilt: straight ahead = Peaky Blinders; 30 degrees = The Sting. It's Donegal tweed and quilted, so perfect for this freezing weather.
