What do you use to shave?

Ok, I've got good luck, that I'm an experienced DE-shave "veteran", since 2008. And I know, what I do. :)

The Baili-TTO in combination with the german "Wilkinson classic" DE-blade isn't for rookies! You have absolutely pay exact attention on every stroke!

But the Baili itself is a wonderful Superspeed-TTO-clone, I tell you. :) The "Wilkinson classic" DE-blade, after nine years, is seemingly a sharp blade, but still "snappy-aggressive", same as I remind. The great "Red Personna" is still an other world! :)

With my DE-razor experience, I managed to finish the shave on a sufficient healthy level. Skin-irritations were still on a classic normal, "low" level and I got some very little and harmless nicks, not beeing a real problem for the next days.

I'm looking forward to try the other drugstore-brand DE-blades (from Eisfeld, Thuringia), after years, and I guess, they will be still more gentle to the skin than the agressive "Wilkinson classic" from Solingen.

That's interesting @rocketeer .
From what I understand, in the US, straight razor shaving was basically a dead art for some decades, especially as the "barbershop culture" was not what it used to be. Straight razor revivalists kind of had to reconstruct the skills from old books and such, as nobody who used to do it on a regular basis in the old days was really around any more (I could be mis-remembering some of that). I know when I first started, I got an electronic copy of a shaving instruction book from about the 1880s to learn from.

I did the same. I found to books on Amazon.
My barber offers straight razor shaves w/ hot towels and the works. She is also quite a looker and great to talk to while she pampers the Hell outta me. I use her before date night. She will use your razor or a shavette. I bring my own soaps just because that what I prefer.

I can say it always and always:

NOTHING CAN BEAT THE BASIC GREYBADGER-BRUSH, WITH IT'S STRONGER BRISTLES AND THE GREAT "MASSAGING-IN-EFFECT" FOR BEST SKIN-PREPARATION!!

Today, I choose my silvertip-brush and the shave wasn't friendly, but because of my experience, I could handle to finish the shave without noteworthy injuries. The massaging-in-effect of my greybadger-brushes would have avoid this "uncozy" shave, I can tell you.

That's, why I took the silvertip that seldom!

To me, the simple greybadger-brush (usually with the cutted ends) is still the "perfect middle" between boar/pighair-brush and finebadger/silvertip! You just can't get wrong with a greybadger-brush!! :)

While in Rotterdam, I bought an Omega. Top of the line badger brush. EU 150 !! Hated it and went back to a $15 synthetic from Maggard's.

Today, my second shave with the Baili-TTO, but this time with the above shown "Isana" storebrand-DE blade, instead the "Wilkinson classic".

And this combination is very good, so much more gentle to the skin! Would be even OK to DE shaving-rookies! Surely not that sharp as with the Wilkinson classic-blade, but nearly that gentle like the "Red Personna"!! :)

But, if I would have to choose now, I would absolutely choose my Merkur 15c, instead the Baili-TTO. Because, the Merkur 15c is the most perfect and "handy" (open-comb) DE-razor, to me!

To me, nothing can beat the old Gillette "prototype-form" of the open-comb, with the short handle!! :)

Yep, next good shave with the Baili-TTO. The german "Isana"-drugstore blade was now "driven into" and still sharp, but very gentle. :)

But!
If I would have to choose, I would always choose good old Merkur 15c! Nothing can beat his great handiness and the very direct, efficient way of work, for me! :)

Now, my Merkur 15c, again. but this time with the german-made "Isana"-storebrand blade, instead of the "Red Personna"

Yep, nearly nothing can beat this little open-comb friend! :D

It's interesting how little thought and observation people give to the things they use and see every single day...

A friend of mine is so accustomed to electric razors or cartridges with three, four or five blades that he thought the DE safety razor was some newfangled trend! So he was completely taken aback when I suggested that he could get one a lot cheaper from an antique store instead of buying a new one.

Then he wondered aloud why it's called a "safety razor." My condensed answer was that it's safer than a straight razor.

Today, a further shave with the Baili-TTO.

Wonderful, WON-DER-FUL!
In the hands of DE-razor-veteran, like me, it's a nearly perfect allround, gentle closed-comb classic! :)

The traditional Speick shaving-soap stick gives of course always a first-class creamy leather with my allround basic greybader-brush and the Baili with these german storebrand-blades works 100% gentle.

Bought some Col. Conk's Shave Cream, one called Santa Fe Cedar. It doesn't lather up as easily for me as the Taylor of Old Bond Street (TOBS) creams do.

Oh, and tried the Red Personna blades again. Maybe it's just me, but I can't discern a whisker (ha!) of difference between most blade brands, except the Feathers which are quite sharp even when used. Red Personna are quite good, however.

If I have time, silver tip badger with tailor of old bond street soap, pre shave oil from Trufitt and Hill, finished off with an antique pipe razor.

If I’m on time, then it’s a Gillette double safety razor G.I. issue from WWII, a badger travel brush and glycerine soap.

Sleep deprived and stumbling out the door I use an electric.

I prefer the straight razor and wish I could use it every time I have to shave.

My husband and I get our razors on barter from a friend's mom who works for Schick. I can my sauce or help her out with some of their garden projects, wine making etc (they are old school from Portugal) and we get loads of the things in return.
