This is the biggest 7 5/8 I've ever tried on. It keeps sliding down to my ears.

A little reducer tape made all the difference. I've been playing with the brim and reworking the shape to better fit me. The hat is fighting back just a bit, but it's coming along. Now that it fits well I'm excited again and ready to try another.
One thought: As much as I like the sand color it is really a summer hat. The brown, navy, or moss would have made a better fall hat. If I were to do it over again.... I'll still wear it this fall and it will be ready for use come next summer too.

I've seen photos of Moontheloon's hemp Stratoliner that he completely re-creased and it looks even better. I'm thinking that will be my weekend project.

Spoken like the hat devil whispering in my ear
. I'm trying to pace myself. I just bought an old Open Road that I'm having to send out for cleaning and reblocking. I also have a couple of vintage hats I'm keeping an eye on. Vintage always comes first since you never know if you'll have another chance.
I would also add the this is not the season for summer hats but the mercury is flirting with 90 degrees today.

I have a Strat in the Milan (plastic) how does the hemp compare? I am not enamored with the Milan it gets very little head time.

I can't compare as I only have the hemp hats. I looked at the Milan and went another way if that tells you anything.
I do like the hemp Stratoliners, but they are not anything special. For me, these are warm/hot weather yeoman hats. They are light on the head, well ventilated, and not bad looking. They seem to do alright in a light rain too. To my eye, these are not dress hats and cannot take the place of a nice Panama, but then they are going for a different market I think. In any case, I find the hemp versions completely wearable; enough so that I'm looking to get the other two colors.

I have owned a couple of the modern Stetson Milans. Owned being the operative term. I'm not fond of them at all. To me, they feel like wearing a plastic bucket in your head. The hemp Milans I have handled were much nicer.
Although for my money, I'd get a Peters Brothers Milan before I'd buy a Stetson.

both the hemp and plastic Stetsons are pretty bad hats
I quickly got rid of that plastic nonsense I bought ... I still have a hemp Strat ... I recreased it and it's ok I guess ... it wears awfully heavy though ... I have felts that wear much lighter and breathe better
I enjoy wearing my hemp OR in the summer ... but overall am not a big fan of straw hats outside of the very fine parabuntal type
all that being said ... if someone is thinking of dropping duckets on a Stetson I urge you to call Peters Bros. and get much more for your money for just a few shillings more
just ask for a Tankersley

I’m thinking of purchasing two hemp Stratoliners. I looked at your pictures in this thread topic and the sand looks like a color that would work great with my wardrobe. Im also looking at the sage and some of the pictures it looks very dark. I was wondering if it is more gray/green color or mainly closer to green. I have a PFG straw that I wear that’s a light tan pictured is the Sand Stratoliner darker than this picture?

I have most of my straw hats packed away for the season. The sand is a versatile color, but without seeing my hat again I’m reluctant to compare them. It will take some work, but I’ll dig them out in the next couple of days and get back to you.

Here’s two hemp Strats in sage. The one on left is unworn. The other has seen much sun and soil from construction sites and been washed once or twice.
Personally, I like both the faded and non.

Now let me add. All reblocks were done by my friends at Buckaroo Hatters. They have excellent blocks and a really HOT steamer.
Steam that is really hot and wet makes a difference. Most home steamers are adequate for felt for us home creasers. But for straw,
and a really nice shape....a powerful steamer is needed.
