I have a few Stetson hats, most of which were made under license in England by Failsworth (the company that held the license from 1948 onwards). I have never seen a Stetson Sovereign that was made under license before but this one i picked up recently. Stetson Sovereign in grey, size 57, overwelt edge at 5,5cm and crown at 10,5 cm at the pinch. A very well made hat with lovely felt, that shapes easily and it came in the original box too. Bert Schrier, Leiden, the Netherlands, the shop that sold it, still exists today. My guess would be late fifties or early sixties.

I just bought a black Stetson Sovereign Temple on ebay this afternoon. It will be my first fur felt fedora. It was listed as excellent condition and looks like it was barely worn. I ordered a moonstone Akubra Sylemaster earlier in the week but it won't be in my hands for a while and the Stetson seemed liked an interesting ebay find.

These license hats are really interesting. Of note is the "Times Square" on the Mfg tag. Hmmmmm?

It's only a speculative guess, but as Times Square is known worldwide, using it implies that Stetson has a hat store there, or maybe some sort of franchise within a large store, the way Estee Lauder sell their fragrances in Macey's.
Looks good on you. How is the felt/quality?
I must have overlooked this comment, sorry about that Red. It's a superb hat, I was somewhat annoyed, having paid $55.00 dollars carriage, when the UK courier left a note asking me to collect my package. (the hat) The reason they couldn't deliver it was because I had to pay import duty of £8:50. I really thought that part of the fifty five dollars was the duty. Never mind, I got over it once I tried on the hat.
Here's a tip, although you can only get away with it if the company is small. If you have purchased abroad ask your vendor to write boldly, somewhere on the package:
Samples only, of no intrinsic value. No value means no tax.

Now for the good stuff........a late 50's Stetson Twenty/Sovereign......5 1/2 crown, 2 1/2 brim....felt is awesome!! Bash as found. Wind cord is JUST visable at the bottom of the ribbon, button is tucked under the bow. I chose to leave it like that. Has sewn liner with protector behind th sweat.......I cannot get to the tags as the liner comes down over them......has fractional keyhole size tag.....,I am in love with this hat.....I call it my Bankers Special ;).
Cheers,
M
