This was an overgrown jungle with no less than 40 lawn ornaments when we bought our house in Nashville. After what felt like meg-bucks and lots of DIY adventures, we've achieved our dream... a suburban backyard. I compromised: no pond, no pool, no fountain, no water feature and not too many mosquitos. If I'm lucky, I'll get a shed for the lawn mower.

Nice Harv! We have few Irises coming out. This variety was from both our maternal grandmothers.

Not anything we put any effort into — just scattered next to the yard. We did get our garden tilled (after skipping it last year to deal with the flooding issues).

And ... the mowing (about six acres worth) begins anew.

Lady B loves her birds and she really enjoys this "chapel" feeder, especially when the Cardinals show up. We've never had birds nest there, until now. Mom's become tolerant of me and my mowing, though she doesn't appreciate the weedeater so much.

Very cool Greg! The Dove looks good in there.

We’ve had a (very loud) Tufted Titmouse that built her nest in a ceramic spittoon that was on a shelf on our patio. This is her third “litter” this year. She was not happy that we were hanging out there this weekend, but when three of the five left the nest we gave her and the kids space (as my dogs can be dogs at times). Here are the two slackers...

We've kept a bluebird house in the back yard for some time but I put a new one up this year. The male that nested there was so aggressive and protective I was afraid he was going to kill himself or at least shorten his beak attacking his reflection in the windows, usually starting around sunrise every morning. Good parents though, they've nested twice this year producing two offspring the first go round and five the second time. The front of this nest opens up, making it easier to clean and take baby pics. This is a pic of the five, already grown and moved on.
