WOW!!!! Absolutely gorgeous, Vic!!! I love gray heather felts and the pairing with the wide brim binding and the peach colored ribbon makes this hat a complete knockout. Also, the fact that this hat says De-Oilized is extremely rare. Until you posted this hat, my (former) Stevens was the only one I had ever seen or had been posted with the "De-Oilized" stamp. I'm not sure exactly what they put on the felt to make it resist oil, but I must say that the felt on my Stevens was VERY clean by comparison to some other vintage hats that I have owned. My Stevens was worn pretty hard and the felt was still almost pristine.

There was talk on the lounge about Stevens possibly using snake oil for this process, but obviously there is no way to prove it. The felt on my Stevens however did have a slick-ish finish that was very different from my other hats. It was obvious that something was impregnated in the felt, but I'm unsure what. For all I know it may have been a Dupont product. Does your hat have a slick-ish feel to it?

I have no idea what decade this one is from. It is on beautiful condition, regardless. XXX beaver. I'd love to have some idea how old it is. I'm getting nowhere in my research. The last pic os after i cleaned it, steamed it, and reshaped it.

This Stevens was made for the then Governor of West Virginia for a conference in 1969 (this is before this Governor was sent to prison for corruption etc.). The open crown is approximately 5 1/2 inches and the brim is 2 3/8 inches. It arrived as a scaled down Open Road with a cattleman’s crease. The brim is just too short to make that look work. I’ve been trying different shapes, but I just can’t get past such a short brim. Great hat with great felt and supple sweatband. The felt is an off-white ice blue.

Stevens Pace Setter - The Royalist

Blue Grey Felt - Early 1960-ish

4 3/4 Crown as shaped

1 1/4 Stylish Ribbon

2 1/4 Brim with bound edge

This blue grey Stevens gives a glimpse into the quality and styling Stevens Hats was producing in the decade leading up to being granted the license for producing all the Stetson hats in the US. It caught my eye as being almost mint shape with a neato ribbon treatment and this very cool Stevens ribbon hanger size tag. It came in a couple days ago and today I had the time to clean it up. Not that it really needed much…. A good brushing released plenty of dust… and some steam to smooth out a few spots and tweak the crease. Silly me I managed to drop the hanger tag while I was steaming and not realize it till after a rain storm ran me off the patio. Found it in a puddle afterwards. I think it will survive though. There are a few very small moth nibbles here and there. But overall a very clean hat and I really like the styling.

An old Steven's fedora. Less than stellar condition but the felt is rather good; comparable to the Beaver Brand hats I have handled. The brown/grey felt color is nice.
Crown - 5 1/4 open
Brim - 2 1/4 bound
Ribbon - 2

The sweatband is stitched but, after a quick review of this and a few other threads, I have not seen this large liner logo so I'm unsure whether this is a very early model or just another one of many during the years of production.
