That is rather a strange rewriting of her poem, what she actually wrote is;

' For the rose, oh, the rose ! is the eye of the flowers,
is the blush of the meadows that feel themselves fair,
is the lightening of beauty, that strikes through the bowers,
on pale lovers who sit in the glow unaware.'

Though this is only a segment, it makes much more sense.

Moving right along...

Is a Fedora Lounger basically a romantic? By which I mean, someone who is looking for (or has) a soul-mate who, like us, gets carried away by ideas and dreams of serving a higher cause? Someone who is moved by the sacrifices made by people of bye-gone decades, and is inspired by great ideals, great literature, and great music? Not to mention great wine?

Someone who sees beyond the superficial and has empathy for the travails of human existence? Yet is still able to have fun and enjoy the moment? And, yes, has a great sense of humor?

Just asking.

That sure does describe me. I hope I can find a guy with similar views.

So tonight I went to a big band orchestra playing here in town, and honestly, I was one of the youngest people there. Sigh. So much for trying to find guys my age at functions like that!

My girlfriend is a FL lurker (I've tried to get her to join - she'd be an incredible addition) and has an equal passion for the GE which is one of the things we share. She'll often ask me "what's going on / what do I need to read on FL." What's funny is she introduced me to FL and, after awhile, I decided to "try a few posts and see how it goes -" it's now five-plus years and nearly 9000 post later.

Bigger picture, yes, I believed shared interests help in a relationship. That said my parents were very happily married for over three decades until my dad passed away and they had no real shared interests.

The funny part is that many of the older people were teens and young adults in the '50s and '60s, not the '40s, and were probably not into big band back then.

but despite our teasing from time to time, they are apparently just good friends.

Probably! I know there is a sizeable group of people in a city about 50 miles from me who loves swing dancing and big band music. And they appear to be younger than me, so not sure that will work, but I plan to check it out at some point as they have dances every Friday night.

The distance isn’t always easy. But a strong connection makes up for it. So does a direct flight.
