Let's not forget 'self-importance.' Hollywood is nothing without 'self-importance.'
No reason to dump on hollywood. The self-importance thing is rampant all over. Alabama, South Carolina, NYC, LA, Dallas, Houston, and almost every professional sports locker room. And we should never forget the Capitol. Maybe all state capitols. Every exotic automobile is little more than a rolling "look at me" billboard. Fouquet only exists because there are buyers willing to pay. Some of those buyers are only interested because it costs a lot.
Back to the point, there was a special legal right given to something that the process did not verify as being so much in the public domain. Undoing wrongs all too often costs too much money and the wrong continues mostly for that reason. Mr F likely knows this and is using it to his advantage.

So much has been written here about the TM crap and I understand where both sides are coming from on Fouquet. It's all personal. Personal beliefs, feelings, taste, choice and the interpretation of the laws by some as they relate to TM's. My response to Ole was a personal one, at first not so much about the TM but about me not liking Fouquet's hats. I'm a fan of the classics. I don't care for his style or for how he is branding himself. My response to Ole was about recognizing one of Fouqet's hats worn by a wannabe celebrity on a made for TV music competition and the conversation it generated in the house when I commented on it.

Fouquet has a bit of history on this site and if you care to look, it's easily found. I've read most of it but neither he nor his work interested me much. In my little world of hat wearing and experience, his work was cartoonish. Think "The mask." Some of that history involves other custom hatters that have a presence here. Fouquet had visit with at least one of those hatters who described it as a pleasant experience. Fouquet, by account, forcibly took over the business of his mentor and partner. That gentleman, known by same hatter responded to this site about those issues he was having with Fouquet. I believe that gentleman died before he could get any resolution.

A polarizing hat maker. Is he a hat make? Go figure. He's gotten more time here than he got on TV the other night. Though I doubt many sales will come from this.
Amen Sir! Amen! Thanks

I didn't say that Hollywood cornered the market on it. But it sure is rampant in show-biz circles there, as it is in so many other places, many of which you mentioned, where self-important people reside.

No, not at all. Just a joking response to @suitedcboy.
Oh! Ok gotcha!
To clarify, cause i’m like that: i confess to being guilty of walking into a room and commenting on something just said without realizing the “context” of the discussion. Had to re-read the whole thread to become “unguilty”. Dizzy!!

As a rookie 9 month closet lounge “lurker” i still get lost with the quote-insert-response format. So much he said she said type confusion potential for me.

I would like to take this opportunity to say since lurking you all have given me so much joy in your posts, pics, battles, suspensions and most of all the heartfelt love and pats on the back between each other that oozes right out of the screen. If only the World..ya know? I thank you and hope to be a little part of it.

In order to remain on topic i will simply ammend my first post to this lounge and my sum total view on the “Matchstick Man”..
“ONE LESS HAT BRAND TO “BUY”.” Nuf said.

Apparently, Hornskov decided to step back and won't rick a lawsuit. Even his website is down right now. Even though I believe one shouldn't give way to arrogance, I totally understand and respect Mr. and Mrs. Hornskov's decision. After all, they couldn't wished for a better publicity – I believe they were unknown even to this forum before the incident.

I'd sure as hell buy a hat from them LONG before I would ever consider buying something from F.

So I've heard his aesthetic described as "bohemian," which is a good as word as any I guess. In opposition to a hatter replicating vintage pieces, he's a forward thinking, fashion thinking hat designer. And that's fine, there's room enough in the world for there to be a ridiculous celebrity hat maker while the rest of us support quality makers. The kicker is though, I don't even think he's the best at what he's doing.

Worth and Worth has some really cool hats that no doubt sell well for NYC. I randomly stumbled upon Hatwrks in Nashville today and they have some really cool contemporary takes on the fedora.

And ok,that's not gonna be everyone's cup of tea either, but I'd wear that over any of Fouquet's lids with random burn marks and stitching. Half the price too.

I have been following Hornskov on Instagram and Facebook for a while now. I like the use of dark earthy colours you don’t usually see from hatters like Art or Penman. I thought the match was a nice touch. It’s a shame about having to ditch all those great photos off social media. But it is what it is. I will still follow him and keep him as an option for a future hat.
I was wondering if there are chemicals on a match that can affect the felt? Discolour it?
As soon as I can get around to buying a pack of matches I think I will stick a few into my fedora. Take some photos, and post them in my Social media. My little protest to this nonsense.

That is one of the real upsides to having access to FEPSA or Tonak felts. Their colour range is so much broader than the Winchester felts available to US hatters.
