Came to this thread hoping to date my Marathon.... Best i can determine from the label is 1940's most likely.

I just found a Marathon hidden on the bay going for 50 bucks in mint condition with all the tags still.
Worth a bid, yes?

I just took possession of a Penney's dark brown Marathon. It looks to have dark grey binding and matching ribbon/bow, and wind trolley. It's sized 7 3/8 and has a Penney's price sticker of $7.90, with the code P8486 on the sweat. It fits me more like a 7 1/2 round oval than the marked 7-3/8.

It was really dusty and I brushed that off, but the bash is a rough 6 point diamond without side dents and I'd like to change it up to a simple center crease with side dents or maybe a c-crown or even a straight forward 4 point diamond.

Marathon "Kennel Club"

Perhaps 1940 - WWII era... heather felt of unknown composition, might contain wool. Spiral stitched brim. Arrived from the seller in an interesting Lee box (for top hat, I think) - likely of no relation to the Marathon other than Lee was likely the maker of this hat for J.C. Penney.
Brim 2 1/4", open crown 5". Color is loden green, best portrayed in the first photo.

B. Turk & Bro. store at this location in Burlington, VT burned in 1946.

sweatband "feel" is supple and slippery - reminds me of the sweat in this Stetson Premier Stratoliner...

what a beauty ... that one caught my eye on eBay a few times ... and every time is was still size 7

Thanks... it's an interesting hat and box. The ship labels are imprinted for the box design, not actual labels. I haven't seen this one before.

Looks just like one I got a while back that the seller swore was 23". It was not.

I ended up passing it along to another Lounger.
I really wanted that one to fit.

I just found this thread. I need assistance if anybody can in dating this hat I bought my son today. It says "Airliner" on the sweat. Even if to the decade would be helpful. From what I have read and compare with similar logos I am guessing 30's to 40's? A Google search turns up nothing that I have found.

This is my first Marathon. I scored this from eBay last month. Just finished cleaning it up today. It was very dirty/stained. I was sure I would have to replace the ribbon. As you can see it cleaned up nicely. The ribbon cleaned up enough that I don't feel the need to replace it. I love this color. I'm calling it steel blue since I don't know the original name. Does anybody know the color? Any idea on date?
