My Agnoulita arrived today.

My first impressions on opening the box were:
1: it's smaller than I was expecting
2. It's a lighter in color than the photos depicted

It's always a bummer when the initial reaction is one of let down.

The brim is a little wonky, but I'm sure I can work out those wrinkles. The felt is surprisingly soft and very pliable. The felt is far superior to the D'aquino I just took delivery of. The ribbon and bow are quite nice. The liner is fine too. Now the sweat; it is shockingly nice. I love how soft and supple this goatskin sweat is. I wish more hats used this quality of sweat. I should back up and also note that the box it shipped in was very nice and reminiscent of days long gone. Strangely, there are no markings on the sweat and no size label either. The hat does seem to fit true to size or maybe just slightly on the small side.

I guess my only reservations are the color and the proportions. I'll work on the brim later and post shots of me wearing it on the What Hat Are You Wearing Today thread. Maybe it will just take some time to adjust to it. I've gotten used to tall crowned hats.

One last dig on the company: my experience is in line with everything else I've heard about Agnoulita: they don't reply to your emails. Expect to pay your money, get ignored, and hope for the best. For what it's worth, I don't see myself ordering from them again.

Very informative review DH, I kind of like the color, but I know that was not what you were expecting. The wonky brim should be fixable, but you shouldn't have to. I think I'll pursue the D'aquino bowler over this brand. Looking forward to the final verdict on your noggin.

Thanks dh, I spent about 30 minutes on it so far. Getting some of the cup out of the front and roughing in the crown. Still need about 15 minutes to smooth it out.

It looks great. I'm actually surprised at how much I like that hat with a cattlemens crease. You'll get a lot of us thinking with this one.

Thanks Red. It's strange how much more I like the D'aquino even though this Agnoulita is better in most metics: hand, ribbon work, mailability, and the sweat. The Agnoulita has all those better components yet the completed product just isn't as compelling. I'm having Luisa at D'aquino put together another hat for me and I'm offering to pay a surcharge for a better sweat. We'll see how it goes.

I'll keep an eye out for your upcoming bowler.

Pity really. They seem to be doing a lot of things right and I can see how you would be tempted by the listing picture. Thanks for the review.

Today's arrival is a Cavanagh rolled brim pimp hat from the 1970s or so. I took in this stray from Ebay on BIN just because it said Cavanagh. Actually very nice felt, factory crease and very light. The liner is glued in and the sweat does not have a Cavanagh logo. It probably would have the Registered Trademark (R) which is used post 1972. The chicken feather hat band does appear to be original, well stitched on there. I'll be wearing this one with
pride!
Those stripper feathers should turn some heads.

That hat band is all you. Classy. What were people thinking in the '70s?
Nice hat anyway.
