Vintage Taubers Horsehide Café Racer- (Weekend Leather Jacket distraction)

Just got this in – a vintage beat-to-death Taubers of California horsehide café racer jacket. Some of you might recall I was on the fence about buying a Taubers horsehide motorcycle shirt a while back…and I just never could pull the trigger on it. Well this latest purchase makes up for it. In spades. A jacket is so much more versatile; and this one comes with buckets of patina as well.
Yes, it’s been to the end of the trail and back- the lining is falling apart, holes in the arm pad and sleeves, paint splatters, knife wounds, scrapes and wrinkles. For me, it all just adds to the charm. I’ve coated it a couple of times with Dr. Jackson’s hide rejuvenator cream and some Lexol leather conditioner. What emerged under all those decades of neglect is a super thick, supple horsehide, built to last a life time…and one of the coolest café racer jacket I’ve ever come across!

Epic!! What a treasure, and what a great job "restoring" and "rescuing" this gem. I also hope to see some photos of it in the wild on you soon. :)

I think this one was on eBay for some time no? I was watching it for awhile to see if the price would ever go down, it stayed rock steady at around 1k. Worth every penny but I have a hard time paying big bucks for vintage stuff because they always seem to have some kind of issues other structural or scent or fit, which makes them less than perfect. Kinda regret not hoovering this one now though.

This isn't the jacket you're thinking of- the one for 1k is still up on ebay. I bought this "barn find" Taubers for a lot less (plus the deal included a pair of custom leather biker pants.) And I agree- I have a hard time paying big bucks for vintage... only because part of the fun is the hunt for a bargain. But I can understand why a serious collector would spend top dollar- there's a certain accumulated beauty and rock'n'roll swagger to these old vintage jackets that new ones just don't have. Those imperfections can be priceless...on the right jacket.

BTW if anyone is interested in a pair of beat-to-death vintage custom leather motorcycle pants, I've got a pair for sale. :)

Tony's comment of "These don't appear in the midwest" This is a very true statement

I did find some at a vintage shop in Minneapolis, however they were sky-high on price.

I was putting some plates on my new city Moto runabout, and my daughter snapped this photo of me wearing the recent horsehide Taubers purchase...thought it looked passable enough to post, for those who requested a fit pic.

This looks so much better on you than the initial photos. It really comes to life when worn. Very, very cool.
