Amelia Earhart Reproduction Jacket The "Aviatrix"

Hello all. I have been working on a reproduction of Amelia Earhart's leather flight jacket for some time now. I am pleased to finally present the prototype. A lot of work and research has gone into this jacket. I have poured over archives and photos to produce the most accurate reproduction of this jacket possible. Other attempts have been made to recreate this jacket, and although they were decent efforts, they have fallen short with some major missed details. Original jacket:




Without further delay, I present the Aviatrix:


Some major immediately apparent details missed in the past are the one-piece back and especially the gusseted armpits. Also the original jacket had a riveted hookless zipper. We also procured NOS 1930's Casien buttons for this jacket. The jacket is finished off with an 1930's Air Associates label. Air Associates was a known supplier of aviation equipment and clothing to Amelia Earhart during her air adventures in the 1930's. Air Assoc. also had other flight jackets made in the 1930's with nearly all the features of this jacket. Including the gusseted armpits.

We have some new updates on the Aviatrix. New higher resolution photos have provided some more insight into the details of the original. We have changed a few things to make a more precise reproduction.

1. The pocket flap shape is a simple angled shape instead of the scalloped shape. In some of the photos the flap appears to have a scalloped shape but upon further review, and after consulting newly discovered photos, the shape can be identified as angle.

2. The button holes are hand made not machined. This feature and a few other factors have led to the conclusion that Air Associates was not the maker.

3. Security Aviation Togs was the maker. We are 99% sure of this fact now. New labels have been made for the jacket.

4. The knits are Seal Brown not Mid Brown.

5. The zipper puller is a Fan style Early to mid 1930's Talon zipper.

All of these changes will be seen on the upcoming production jackets. I will post some photos a little later of some of the new features.
