Ah! That's more like it. I have a photo of my father wearing one of those in a reverse draw holster. He's in uniform standing in front of a Jeep, cap tilted just so in a very non-regulation way.

There are still new 1917 S&W revolvers around but good luck finding one. S&W calls it the M22 now, or at least, some retailers do. It was made in a few variations, all in .45 ACP. At one time, S&W made several large frame revolvers in .38 special, .44 S&W and .45 ACP, with both fixed and adjustable sights. Manufacture apparently continued until after model numbers (instead of names) began to be used. But they must not have sold well. Skeeter Skelton said he never saw any in the gun emporiums he frequented in those days. In fact, except for J-frames, S&W revolvers are scarce at the shops I still visit, too.

I too, would love to do a S&W like the Indy gun, I do love that barrel band. I do have a couple .38s that I look at with evil intentions every once in a while, but I haven't had the heart to do it yet....

Bought my first wheel gun this past week, a brand new Ruger Redhawk 44 Magnum w/ 5.5" barrel! I put the first 100 rounds of 44 mag through it yesterday, my hand is still sore. Feels good!

Not as easy as Clint Eastwood makes it look, is it. First time I shot one I couldn't hear anything for 2 hours.

No hearing protection? That would hurt! Harry Callahan would be stone deaf for the whole Dirty Harry series after the very first shot in the very first scene!

This thing was so loud the shock wave was blowing snow off the roof of the shooting bench shelter, lol.
I had doubled up ear plugs with ear muffs, so it didn't bother me any.

Yes, rough on the ears and hand. I have a big S&W classic hunter, non fluted cylinder, and a long barrel 7 3/8 if I remember right and factory ported so it is rather loud. Ear muffs are definitely the fashion of the day when shooting this one

I picked up a few boxes of Winchester .45 auto service grade FMJ ball ammo

for the G21 SF , this is the closest thing to GI ball ammo , they even boxed it up in old style brown paper boxes.

I read this ammo is loaded a little hotter than standard target ammo, closer to military specs.

This was a gift from a friend. He's 76 and it belonged to his grandfather. Going to my gunsmith for a once over. Now I'm on the hunt for 41 short rimfire ammo.
