Vanson Model B opinion

Sleeve length is what is keeping me away from the model b... I need a 24.5” length and it doesn’t seem they offer any suitable size with that length...

Not sure if it is a bad thing though lol

That Model B looks as great as could be expected for a Vanson. I also would not worry about a little extra sleeve length.

Glad to see the B getting some attention here. I owned an A which I bought locally off CL a few years back and sold it as it just never really fit correctly, I don't see anyone here talking about the A either so wonder if it's a style/design that is just harder to appreciate? That was in Pre-FL days, good experament but would not mind a B at some point down the road. Enjoy the break in process! :)

A is probably my favorite jacket in the world. Well, one of few but really, it's by far the most comfortable jacket I've had on the bike, sans that stupid Hein Gericke I wear now. Perfectly designed jacket all around. B is cool, A is an engineered perfection. I mean, the HH Schott that I have is awesome but even I'll admit it can't compare to the Model A. Actually, I don't think I've seen two jackets that could. I had a size 46 then 40. Sadly, the 40 was too tight and 46 obviously too big. 42 would've been okay. I think. But anyway, it's a hardcore riding jacket. I know it looks similar to the B but it really is a lot different once you try 'em on.

I always liked the A also, but found it too long in the back.........27.25 inches for a size 42...The B is 26 inches.

It's very short at the front, though. Shorter than the B. But yeah, it is a very serious riding jacket.

Just curious how many of you from here actually wearing this off the bike. Today I travel to this city(somewhere in Ohio) and can't help but noticing some people gave me a strange look which makes me little uncomfortable.

The sleeve length is 26 straight from shoulder.

No way. Nowadays the B barely even looks like what you'd associate with a riding jacket. It's just a standard CR. I'm pretty sure most people who bought these never even sat on a bike. Don't worry about it.

Don't worry about the looks people give you, if anything, I wear mine a lot off the bike (no bike at all right now) just to raise awareness of these wonderful jackets. Anything to help folks understand that you can indeed wear something that is not a recycled pop bottle on your back - everyone around here wears soft-shell jackets and cannot understand why I try not to...

I wear my America (Model B with flag and stripes) exclusively off the bike, for one because I don't ride and own no bike. I don't think you got any looks because people thought you looked off in the jacket without a bike. The model B is a style very similar to many fashion and mall Cafe Racers out there, so I don't think it's the looks of the style. I believe they look because a Vanson jacket is something unusual they don't often see and it's pretty new and stiff and shiny, so it jumps to the eye more than all these jackets you see every day, so they may think "omg what a monster of a jacket is he wearing". These looks will go away once the jacket is broken in, less stiff, less shiny and blends in better with your daily apparel.

Yes, I haven't seen anybody wearing even a mall leather jacket.....

Ivan - glad that you liked the A. On a bike I would be all over it. The rather seriously extended back I found a bit cumberson in actual off the bike wearing of the jacket, and it was a 46 (remember this was a pre Fedora-Lounge jacket and the fit was questioanble). If it would have been a 44 it probably would have been a keeper. Shoot, I only paid $200 for it and the owner had worn it less than a dozen times! Guess we live & learn sometimes... :)

I wear my Model B America on and off the bike. The looks I get are fear and envy ...LOL. The sleeves on a 42 are 26.50 inches, a bit long for me and I don't zip them. I find zipping the sleeves when not on the bike makes the upper arm too puffy looking. Great jacket !!

Good grief, my spelling in that prior post was plain rotten. Sorry you all have to endure that so much here in my posts.

The fit on your jacket is positively superb. I couldn't get the B to fit me that way (see below) and had to return mine. I felt like a little brother in big Bros jacket. It's back to the Aero queue for me but had mine fit as well as yours it'd still be with me today.

Maybe standard model b will be better, or you are too strong for this extremely trim jacket.

On the topic of the Model B: If one was looking for a strong black jacket custom made by Thurston Bros, would there be any difference in quality compared to the CXFQHH or CX Steerhide offerings from Aero? I know the companies do things differently, but I'm asking about the hides themselves. Vansons are solid and cool looking (besides being a local company!); seems like a good choice for a first "real" jacket. Am I missing anything by going with them over Aero? Note: I don't ride motorcycles... yet.

If you walk around with your elbows flaired out, I’d look at you strange too. The jacket looks great on you.
