New Aeromarine jacket, fit advice needed

Hi all,

I just received my second Aero jacket, an Aeromarine in seal goatskin. There were some issues regarding shipping, but Aero pulled in off in the end! (I would really like to thank Christine and the rest of Aero for their patience and assistance in pulling through with my order. Their customer support is top notch!).

As noted in my previous thread, I wanted something completely different from my first Aero Highwayman (in tumbled cordovan FQHH). I had gotten samples of Aero's goatskin, so I had some idea of idea of its properties before the make. However, as a full jacket, it's so much lighter than the FQHH. Off the box, its softer than the Highwayman I've been wearing frequently for months (especially around the neck area). It's much shiner though, and I understand it will stay that way for a long time, but then that's the different look from the other jacket.

In any case, on to the fit:

As to the fit, I like it overall. I feel the sleeves could be shortened a bit (it goes down the first knuckle of the thumb now, but it could lose an inch or so). I don't know how to wear the shawl collar though, is it supposed to fold flat against the chest? It's fighting me in that area. I also feel that the back of the collar is shaped a bit strangely (possibly due to how it was packed? I hope that will settle with wear). The rest of the dimensions seem okay.

Any thoughts/opinions about the fit?

Thanks!

The fit looks good to me- don’t worry about the ‘long’ sleeves -they will shorten as the elbow sections develop permanent creases with wear. As for the collar - stand in front of a mirror and check it out in different positions and see which look good to you - then get a second opinion from someone whose style judgement you trust. For example I know I’ve got it wrong when my wife tells me she’s not leaving the house with me ‘looking like that’ and makes adjustments to what I’m wearing. You could dampen the collar and let it dry in the ‘best’ shape as some here suggest, but if it was me I wouldn’t as it’s good to be able to change its position according to the weather i.e. raised if it’s windy down if it’s warm and raised at the back and down at each side to look ‘cool’.
As always - Robs advice - take it or leave it - your choice - no worries.

I think the jacket fits you perfectly.. I wouldn't change a thing. As with any new leather jacket its going to take a few weeks to feel "right". Give it a good dose of wear and report back in two months.. I have a feeling you'll be very pleased.

I like the look of the goat in this jacket. Looks to fit quite well. I get bugged about sleeves being too long, but sometimes you just gotta live with it. Maybe they need to bring back he roll up cuff.

Nice looking jacket on you!

Love the jacket, the hide, and the fit. Really nice! The length is perfect for that type of jacket. Occasionally, I see one of these types of jackets that is too long and it just doesn't work IMO. You nailed it.

I think the fit looks good so long as the sleeve isn't totally covering your hand. Everywhere else is spot on perfect. Hard to tell where the sleeves actually hit from your pics.

Sleeves will shorten more with wear the longer they are. Unless they are comically long, ie reach mid palm, i would not worry about it.

Great fitting jacket.

graininess of the goat looks nice with some sheen like that. and comparing the same style by different makers, this one with leather facing looks nicer than exposed fabrics of the liner when the collar is worn like that.

Lovely jacket and fits you well. The arms are a little long but difficult to tell for sure as your hands are in your pockets. Might be worth asking Aero if they can take an inch or so off?

Yeah, sorry about the hands in pockets, force of habit. Will get around to posting some pics of my hands out of the pockets, I just can't find the opportunity.

But regarding the length of the sleeves, in a neutral position they basically come as an arc from the base of the thumb ("knuckle" of the thumb) to the knuckles of the hand. Looking at some photos online, it sort of looks like this photo (only for the sleeves):

Ordinarily that shouldn't be a problem for me, as I know the leather will crease and pull the sleeve upwards (it did for my HWM). But I'm reading that goat does not really do that, so it will be stuck at this length.

For various reasons, it might not be feasible for me to send the jacket back to Aero (international shipping, and the risk and inconvenience of customs when getting it back) for what would be a minor adjustment. Will goat pull itself upwards at all? Otherwise, any advice on how to adjust the length in this area?

If the Aeromarine sleeves fit you as shown above, In my opinion you're good to go. leave them as is. between the creasing and settling in of the shoulders you'll find after a season of wear the sleeves will end up being fine, and for sure you'll stop noticing and certainly no one else will ever notice.

You'll probably be fine, but if you want quicker results...wet the sleeves (not cuffs) with COLD water and scrunch them up a few times to make creases. Wear periodically until dry. That should start the process.

Looks very nice. I'd leave it as is, I would far prefer to have the sleeves a bit long than a bit short...

I like the goatskin on this jacket as well!

How stiff is the goatskin? The shoulder slope is very nice!
