Tonio, congrats on that one. Good to see it made it over and such a great looking hat too. Gorgeous! I feel less bad missing that one now that it's not my size. I do have that hat box's brother over here marked "bruin" (brown), while yours is marked "grijs" (grey).

I do hope that's an Punti 7 (so a 61 cm) and not an American 7, otherwise I'm going to be sooooo jealous. The Gorasgu model and the palladio colour are a killer combination. Stunning hat. Congrats and well done! Where did you find this one?
Greeting Steur et al:
Wow! Thank you Sir. That’s some high praise. Sorry, it is a US 7, all be it a rather loose fit thankfully. I was pleasantly surprised it was only a moderately hard fought battle of the bay bids a couple month’s ago. I knew it was a good one and VERY happy upon it’s arrival. The only downfall with it is it’s propensity to just float away it’s so light! I have to keep a hat weight on it or it will “get away”!! Ha
Thank you Sir, love your hats and coats!!
Be well. Bowen

Greetings All:
Another installment to the Brotherhood.
A vintage Palladio colored Gorasgu. Unreeded and corrugated sweat of lovely soft 1 7/8” leather. I really like the liner crest color and detail. Very thin light obedient felt as well. I’m thinking 50s origination and sold by The Higbee Co. Cleveland, Ohio i assume.
Be well. Bowen

WOW. Beautiful lines, color and style

Greetings Tonio et al:
Glad to see you got the hat. I’ve been curious how that went. It looks to be in wonderful condition and stunning color and ribbon contrast. Super hat! I know from the earlier post you were worried about the transaction. You also said you have a 2x and it would be hard to imagine this one being nicer felt. So, what’s the verdict? The Marque Grand Luxe is a fabulous hat in hand. You now have the Grandest model and in my opinion one of the nicest Borsa hats made. I celebrate along with you. One day i will post my MGL 5x for your comparison. Enjoy
Be well. Bowen

The gods of ebay's search engine certainly work in mysterious ways, because I seem to miss out on nice vintage hats frequently. Well, at least it went to a fellow lounger who'll take good care of it. The Gorasgu is a great model, probably aimed specifically at the American market. Don't let it float away, Bowen!

Hi Bowen, thanks for the kind words. I'd have to agree it must be their highest quality. For sure it overshadow the 4X which is already a great hat without question. I've always wanted one, however they are usually found with shorter brims. I'd imagine if I lived when they were actually sold I'd be broke. I'm interested to see your 5X for sure.

Ha..yes i think we all would be broke back then!! Glad to hear you are happy with it. It’s stunning! This model is hard to find. I did pick up a twin MGL 5x to mine al be it too small and short brimed, 4 Punti, 1 7/8 over-welt, pristine, but i just had to feel another one!! Ha The 2 5/8 raw edge is so much more to my liking. Enjoy your hat. I’ll try soon to post mine.
Be well. Bowen

Greetings Carouselvic et al:
That’s a stunningly beautiful hat in every way! I really really like the felted edge, it adds class upon class. One perfect hat! Enjoy!
Be well. Bowen
PS: how would you classify it’s felt say versus one of those “stack of hundreds” Stetsons?

I'm looking to purchase a Borsalino Classico fedora and I found a pretty good price on Hollandhats.com.
I've read that this model hat is also very soft and 100% rabbit fur, no wool involved.
They are not as expensive as the Como or Bellagio as I understand which are made with a finer fur from the under belly of the hare and rabbit mix?
Anyway for $218.00 I think it's a good buy.
What are your thoughts?
Thanks.

Buy it. It's best to have a choice of 3 - 4 colors, too. Bencraft Hatters is quite competive with Borsas.

Borsalino Qualità Extra Superiore. Size 7 or 7 5/8 in US
2w3743c.jpg

Color Rutenio with matching ribbon in the same felt width 1.5 cm
axcf3b.jpg

The shape of this hat is "Cocisca" is more massive than other I have in my collection, sold in the Italian market during those years
nlpjq0.jpg

The brim, oversewn and finished with three seams are 7 cm. and the low point crown is 11.5 centimeters
2eocwvo.jpg

Made probably in the 1950s for Bellina Pietro - Vicenza hats shop, now closed.
It is without lining only with a tip very well finished.
2v362x4.jpg

Classic Borsalino golden sweatband stamps classified the hats as "Impermeabile" (Waterproof)
214trp2.jpg

Felt is soft and very malleable

This grey/beige Borsalino "Rutenio" is too wide for my head, so if you have the right size to wear it let me know with a PM

Beautiful hat, Daniele. Never seen this shape and finishing before. Love the colour Rutenio.
