Do you have any experience with the Last Best West Hats? I'm looking at their The Outlaw Josey Wales hat but I'm not sure of quality/value and fit.

Stetson's Austral was a pretty good replica of BOTP. I don't know if they still make it. I have a black one at home.

No personal experience, no. Apparently they made some hats for Hell On Wheels, a show I really enjoyed though.

If you order one I'd be really curious to see how it turns out. There's a couple hats on their site I like, including their "The Thing" hat.

I know their hats are high quality. I just don't like their Josey Wales hat because it doesn't look like the one in the movie. The one in the movie didn't have a ribbon on it.

Although their website shows it with a ribbon, they will make the hat with or without the ribbon. I'm also not into cosplay or reenactments so authenticity to a movie isn't important to me. I just liked the style.

So few really care about how or what a hat is made of including the majority of the SASS and NCOWS members from what I have seen. Way more rabbit hats in either group I suspect that beaver. I always figured the "buffalo" fur was simply a sales gimmick.
