Thanks Rick. I thought I remembered seeing one of these on here somewhere. This felt is a little sturdier than either my Stetson or my Anthony Open Road, but it's definitely a good one. It'll make a nice daily driver, I think.

Definitely will fit the bill!

Adam Open Road style, the Austin. The lady I got it from said it had been a gift to her dad from a business associate back in the 50s.

Nice one Dale! Very cool that you got a story to go with it. Congrats!

This one came in this week, but I still needed to take pictures of it. Battersby backbow fedora in green (new sage according to the label). Fairly low crowned hat at 9cm at the pinch, with the overwelt brim at 5,5cm. Size 7, so a bit roomy for me (not a storm-proof hat). The ribbon is what caught my eye. Very wide at 6,5cm (about 2 5/8 inches) and the widest ribbon I have on a hat. It was unlined, but I did have an unused battersby liner that needed a second life. I don't think this hat was designed for the pinch it now has, but I like the way this looks.

Cool! That wide ribbon is certainly unusual, and the low crown really emphasizes it.

Ottmar Reich probably mid to late 1930 to early 1940s. I think the straw type is probably Asia sourced (possibly Japanese Paper Panama) but bleached in Germany. Interesting bow design, brim treatment and form. There is no paper label and I assume it probably had some type of crown tip patch originally. This is definitely a rare find. This came from the same East German (near Leipzig) seller of the recent Echt Velour.

I missed that first time around. It’s fabulous, Steve.

40s indeed

"John Cavanagh" disappeared around the mid 40s

the name and address all point to your age assessment being accurate

Thanks Ant, what put the nail in my assumption was the factory label has a closed serif numeral 4, as pictured in 40’s examples in The Hatted Professor, as does mine, whereas the 50’s example has a opened top numeral 4.
I’d love that felt if it was made tomorrow.
