Jacket ADD

I’ve barley posted on the site, but have been checking in almost daily for two years. In those two years I’ve bought two Schott’s and a Vanson. Multiple sweaters, jeans, and my personal moccasin collection. Which I’ve been meaning to post here at some point. They are all handmade by my uncle in elk, bison and moose hide. I thought it might be a fun hobby now I’m this far in and in talks to possibly by a 4th jacket while looking at another pair of jeans. Not to mention my hat collection. Just turned my gf onto the site and the FB page for dresses. She told “I hate you” because of the addiction. In my limited time I can only recommend getting out now!

Greetings DannyK et al:
Oh don’t be shy please, by ALL MEANS mention your hat collection. Just mosey on over to the Hat forum and mention away. Plenty enablers there too. Ha
I just mosey’d this way from over there. One thing i realized quickly, jackets are just as easy to buy as hats. But LOTS MORE expensive. I’m staying away from the car threads!!
Be well. Bowen

Ugh don’t get me started. I have an obsession with Triumph Motocylces. And my father is obsess with classic cars. I don’t currently have a bike but the car/bike thing is in my dna. If hats and jackets don’t bankrupt me the bikes and cars will!

Thats my current local. One thing you can say for Anchorage is that 90% of the year its jacket and hat weather outside.

What took you outside?

College... but i miss AK... where my heart is. But i have built this whole new life with lots of folks in it... and AK not in the cards.

At one point... would like to buy a cabin up there to stay in for summer months... maybe the next chapter.

Been back there about 10 yr ago and wow a lot has changed.

We just love jackets. And our obsessive traits spill into other hobbies...motorcycles, scale models, guitars, etc etc. We possess some ancient mutant chromosome or something. Probably aliens.

Really? You haven't met my ex-wifes....

Actually, what you say is largely true and essentially how the roles of men and women are groomed and fostered by culture. Whether this is innate is highly contested.

I used to collect things (never had any interest in cars or guitars) but I had two thousand books and many works of art. And, at one point about 50 jackets. I realized in my late 40's that it was all nonsense. I gave away most of my belongings and now live as a wannabe minimalist. 3 jackets and only 300 books. I hate clutter and don't keep anything I don't use in the course of 12 months. I am a lot happier.

I’m trying to declutter and minimise my belongings as well, the only things I cant bring myself to get rid of are the leather jackets.

Let me know if you need help with those leathers. [emoji51]
I’m kidding, I’m in the process as well to de-clutter, I’ll try to go down to five jackets max. Wish me luck.

Same. I feel like my only belongings are my computer and a whole bunch of leather jackets. If I lost everything else in a fire, I wouldn't even know what it was. . .
Pretty much the same thing for me. My clothes and my computer are pretty much my entire property.

As for what the OP says: I remember when I was like this, but for the past 2 years I have been fairly consistent. I had my RMC A2 and my Himel Grizzly and was quite happy with them. I now have another Himel, but that's just it- it's another Himel. The only other brands that I would possibly buy from in the future (Good Wear, Freewheelers, Vanson, Thedi) are the same 4 brands I have admired, but not purchased from for at least 3 or 4 years.

While certainly we will never really buy a 'last leather jacket ever,' for many of us, our tastes sort of settle and define themselves to some degree at a certain point with some exceptions. Certainly this is the case for me.

I got on a minimalist kick a year ago. Whereas I got rid of huge amounts of stuff, I have six Aeros and an SB that I cannot bring myself to either sell or pass on. If I could get myself down to my goat half belt, a Highwayman and the Stockman, I'd be fine, but it is difficult. I'd love to be in the position where I could just own three leather jackets, a dark tweed overcoat, six shirts, four pairs of trousers and three or four sets of footwear, I'd have a moveable wardrobe which I'd be happy with. The best outcome would be one leather jacket (I'd pick my brown fqhh HYMN [oddly, my oldest Aero]), but I feel that I like to have a buttoned jacket as well (although I don't know why; a decent wool peacoat or black wool overcoat probably looks better and is more practical for cold weather). It is a truly bizarre addiction.

Problem is, Shanghai gave me a selection of very durable, tailor-made wool overcoats which I sentimentally hang on to (I relocate to the UK in June, so I imagine that I'll need them, but I could move on four of them). I find it weird that it took me so long to realise that buying small numbers of really well-made, long-lasting clothes was a better option. One thing I found was having a set of home clothes- for me, just a few raggedy t-shirts and some sweat pants- helps. If you don't wear your best stuff at home, other items take on an almost formal function, which makes it a lot easier to have fewer things in the cupboard. If I could live in a couple of pairs of Pike Bros hunting pants and a Pendleton shirt or two with some Loakes and the Highwayman, I'd be calm like a zen monk.
