Schott's ladies jackets are typically very nicely cut. Shame they always seem to feel so fragile with being lamb, but then there doesn't seem to be so much of a women's market for vintage style bike jackets actually intended to be worn as such. Can't blame Schott for going where the money is.

Short jackets like this look great on reasonably slim women, much better than on men. If men are to wear short jackets they need to fit a lot better.
Can't blame Schott for going where the money is.
That's very true... and it's always good to remind ourselves that selling a lot of mid-quality fashion jackets brings in the $$$ which allows firms, like Schott, to offer more specialized low-volume "serious" jackets. I'm pretty sure if Schott had to make do on sales of 613 horsehide perfecto jackets they wouldn't survive.

OK guys, I'm actually shopping for a classic perfecto style jacket for my daughter. She is amused to no end by my recent obsession with leather jackets, as she has kinda been into cloths since she was a little girl. She is probably a women who can actually fit into some to the ones modeled.
Having said that she is also really into music and history, and loves the New York rocker vibe of the 70s (the time and place of my youth). I cant find much used, and am considering going with a new Schott.

Any suggestions?

If she really plans on wearing it for more than just one season, I think that any of the serious Perfectos should work. Like the one above. I think it looks seriously good on the model above, the length is great, sleeves are super cool... And it's this model that's in fashion this year so she ought to love it. Zara, H&M and everyone's just copying it. Top sleeve zippers, shoulder gussets and all.

I like women wearing oversized (relative to them) men’s jackets, my girlfriend at height of five eight, wears a men 38” Schott 613, & a 36 GB A2. Very nice!

I agree with Monitor and your own first thought, I think a Schott is a great intro jacket into the world of high quality leather, great compromise of fashion and quality. The Schott Perfecto is to this day still the coolest rocker jacket there is.

Hey @Monitor et al,
I figured you would know about all things Schott. My daughter wants a serious jacket that she can wear for years to come, not a fashion lamb jacket. However, she does not ride, and will be wearing it "fashionably". Is the one above with the lovely model the 626VNW? I am unsure about the distressed and "vintaged" leather. I am tempted to go with the 137 W as it mentions that it has the bi-swing back. Is that the same as shoulder gussets. Not sure what the difference between these and the 536W is but I have an email into Schott maybe they can explain. Not too much info on the web page.
@regius my daughter is 5'-10" and weighs 140 Lbs. Kinda tall and thin not unlike the above lovely. Do you think a small mens jacket like the 38" 613 would work? I suppose she should probably go try on a bunch if I am going to go with a new jacket. There is a Schott Flag Store in LA.
Thanks for all the tips guys, as usual.
Peace

Man, all you really need in this life are the New York Dolls and Richard Hell’s
Blank Generation. I know I’m not mentioning the Ramones but some of those other groups from 70s NY are just stellar. Oh we’re talking about jackets??

I honestly don't know how different Schott women's jackets are compared to the rest but I think that for all the proper diagonal zips, they use the same kinda, good quality cow/steer, perhaps tumbled down a bit.

I would avoid lambskins and not because they're bad or anything but because for the price, you'd be better off buying something whatever from any mall. But with Schott or any other good brand that offers women's jackets, I'd always go with the classics they're known for.

Vintaged usually means the jacket's been tumbled and sanded down at places to mimic wear and use. Like they do with jeans. And yep, bi swing back is the same as shoulder gussets. :)

Not many heritage makers do women's jackets. There's Aero of course, they make a lovely cross zip. Then there's Vanson:
https://vansonleathers.com/41-womens-motorcycle-leather-and-textile-jackets
Better prices though it's Vanson so I would imagine these are all primarily riding jackets... Might not be best suited for casual use.

What else is there? Lewis Leathers, probably the coolest and most high-end choice... But also the priciest. But I've handled a few of these and they're another level altogether.

Your daughter will certainly look very good in leather with that height!
I would add to the list Thedi leathers, they have a lovely model:

And she gets to use the leather as well :)

What age is she? Might be different over there, but over here Schotts are not cheap. I have a 618 because I wanted a P-type to replace an Aero MC I have (in truth, the Aero is a vastly superior jacket but the cut of it is just too nipped in at the waist for me - I needed the boxier cut of the Schott) and because I got a crazy cheap deal on eBay on one that was barely used. In UK terms, Schotts are pretty much Vanson money; imo there's much better vfm out there. If your daughter is of an age where she's likely to grow out of it, I'd forget a new Schott; ether way, I'd go looking used first. I've had pretty good luck with off-brand Perfecto types over the years, if you're not so fussy about brand. If the relative pricing is the same in the US, I'd look into the Vanson options. Vanson don't seem to do a P-type in a ladies' cut, though, so you'd probaly ant to check if she has a preference that way. Most of the original punk girls round CBGBs woulda worn men's jackets, of course, a la Joan Jett here:

Schott aren't cheap here either. A new one goes for almost $800. My daughter is 27 now. How time flies. Not sure if she is growing out of things anymore. She is a classical musician, but has a pretty diverse taste in music. She loves Patti Smith:

pattismithtop5-1.jpg

Of course back then in my old neighborhood the lower east side, no one bought anything new, just to get barfed on at CBGBs. Everyone was broke anyway. I doubt they even made "women's" perfectos. I think the old neighborhood has changed a bit since then as well.

Thinking of buying the 137W. It is the closest to a real jacket they make for women. Fairly heavy, with naked cow hide, not pre-distressed leather, and it also has a bi-swing back, like the shoulder gussets on real riding jackets.

I suppose I could let her try to find a used smaller size mans jacket, but they are also hard to come by cheap these days and fit is hit or miss. The Schott has become a cliché of sorts I suppose. Old guys like me getting nostalgic about the good old days.......

Vansons aren't cheap either. The one they describe as their Brando Style goes for $900 new.

Thanks for all the tips.

I do think Schott is probably the best for what you have described. I own both Schotts and Vansons. And as it’s been said Vansons are in an entirely different league but they are meant for riding. They do offer a few different leather thicknesses and finishes these days. So I suppose if they made a model your daughter liked, you could customize the leather and hardware but then you’re paying even more for custom work. A Schott in naked cowhide as you are looking at or if they offer the ladies in their standard cowhide should be more than sufficient. If taken care of it can easily last a 27 year old another 20-30 years. Fashionable yet sturdy for the purpose. I’m sure she would love it! You are a great dad I wish my dad had bought me a perfecto! Haha

Thanks for the tips. I am trying to pass on the jacket obsession to the next generation. If it works, I'm sure she will thank me.

Hadn't thought about a Thedi. I picked up a Thedi FQHH cafe racer last year and even though It doesn't get enough wear, it is absolutely one of my favorite jackets.

Have an email into Theodoros asking for info about their Women's Collection, Motorcycle jacket. Not too much info on their web page.

Thanks,

Peace

As far as I know they only have this model... saw it in the shop, it is very nice. Thinking of getting it for my other half :)
