Per special request from the Mattster, I will bring out the "Huggy Bear". It just seemed festive with all the plumage (there are green highlights, some type of exotic chicken...). This Cavanagh rolled brim homburg like creature is all disco...kiss me I'm Irish! No really, there is Irish in my veins, mother's maiden name was McCollough.

Everybody is looking great and very Irish today. Out and about under a moss green Gannon on St. Patrick's day.

Starting at @KarlCrow, wishes for a Merry and Happy St. Patty's Day to the world.

Made by Gary at Custom Hats of Buffalo from New Old Stock (at the time) "Cavanagh Edged" Borsalino felts, the stingiest brim I own, but perfect for today...

Thanks Red. I decided to stay with the buttery leather, but did throw a green scarf into the mix to be on the safe side.

Didn't see much in the way of wearin' of the green out there in any case. Or maybe I just didn't notice.

The Huggy Bear looks great. Looks a lot like my Dobbs. Maybe I shouldn't have tossed the feather band I took off of some old western. Ha ha

Michael

Happy Irish pride day, loungers!
Stay safe out there.
I seem obliged to note the green. Be well folks and stop when the words slur. We beat the English at rugby earlier, I'm glad I wasn't playing puts it mildly. Savage hits. They played well too. K.

I am quite proud to be home on the day my mother found the evidence necessary to prove my father’s heritage back to the American Revolution. My great great great great great (?) grandfather fought in a North Carolina militia unit. Online records show him at the Battle of King’s Mountain but there is a ton of inaccurate information out there on this ancestor so we’re not certain yet.

My mother’s side should also go back so far but we have still to find the smoking gun.

To celebrate I wore my new-to-me 3X Stetson out on a commissary run here on the U.S. Army base where my folks live. This photo is actually from yesterday but I wore exactly the same outfit today.

Wonderful history Nathan! The records from 1777 are a lot harder to find than Civil War stuff. I commend the efforts. Great hat by the way!

Happy St.Patrick's day. Best, Eric-
Happy St. Patricks's to you as well Eric. That Stetson really stands out today. I assume it has some substantial age?

We had proof of heritage all the way back to the 1820s with a bunch of hearsay about the connection to the Revolutionary vet. It was a tangled web from there but my folk still untangled a few mysteries and cleared up a bunch of misinformation then the final link was made:

The Daughters of the American Revolution have a fascinating affidavit on record from an elderly cousin given way back in the 1930s swearing that the connection was real. She mentions a family Bible with the family tree going back to the 1770s so our next step is to try to locate it. But the sworn statement was accepted by the DAR in the 30s so that’s good enough.

Oh and I wore a Wooley hat today, winter and snow came back in both London and Dublin, awful wierd weather. I've known it snow before on Paddy's Day, but more hail with warm sun afterwards in 1995, but this is cruel. And it was proper cold with a very lazy wind, the type that cuts right through you rather than blowing around you. You all look amazing today.
