Lunch, Anybody?

I was on the road yesterday and stopped at a little taco stand. I had the 4.99 lunch special...2 chorizo tacos, beans and rice, chips and salsa (A really good green salsa with plenty of heat) and an orange Jarritos.

Starbucks downstairs occasionally surprises with whole grain ham or hot dogs produced by Armour or Nathan's for lunch,
welcome menu additions but this afternoon's fare was reduced to the standard chicken nuggets/tenders; so I grabbed some
joe and donuts instead. A lazy Friday office escape routine surfin the internet and not much else. Caught the University of Chicago
Maroon student newspaper clippings from the past month highlighting apparent lingering campus free speech issues.
A discernible intolerance of mind speaks loudly.

For lunch? Man, we need to hang out [emoji14]

Very good catch.

As a reasonably average guy, alcohol normally only makes an appearance in my day when work is done and the sun is headed or already down.

That said - and probably because of its coloring-outside-the-lines vibe - the few times a year that SGF and I do drink early in the day (New Years Day and my birthday are both kicked off with mimosas / and a day or two here or there throughout the year for this or that reason), feels fun and special in a youthful way.

Several years ago, a couple of the guys on my team took a Friday off to fly down to Hilton Head for a weekend of golf. They called me at about 8am (plane left at 11am) to see how I was doing (really, to make fun of me for being stuck at work). In the course of our conversation, I learned that before leaving for the airport, they were throwing back a few beers with their breakfast of eclairs (there was a bakery nearby that made killer eclairs) while "Guns N' Roses" was playing (loudly) in the background.

Just over the phone, I could feel the free-from-work, play-day joy they were experiencing. They worked hard and this was that special day to do some of the stuff you usually can't. I've had similar experiences, but when I think of early-in-the-day drinking, it is that silly call from those two guys that always comes to mind.

Life is hard and most of us work very hard just to keep it all going forward. Hence, when you get those few one-off days of responsibility free fun - enjoy it, they don't come often, but they are special.
