Here is an old thread that deserves some resurrection Hopefully we can repopulate it with some images that won't drift off to Photobucket oblivion. Alan posted last in 2011. Oldie but a goodie. I submit a custom NW Hats Panama with an OSU Orange (ish) puggaree. Feels good to have a straw on my head before May 15th, makes me feel kind of rebellious.

Well you are at least a month ahead of us up here in the north....perhaps two months ++ before I dare break out the straw.

This hat is far too good to be in the wardrobe of just one hat wearer. You will box and post it to the following UK address...................................

You free-thinking academic types are always coloring outside the lines. I’m telling you, anarchy will ensue! Next you’ll be wearing brown shoes in town and blue and green together.

Such a great hat will excuse a lot of sins. :)

I only have the one straw hat--a Sunbody made from oak-colored Guatemalan palm--but I still have options.

The "ribbon" it came with...

...a band made from polished coconut husks and cheap plastic beads...

...or a khaki-and-floral-print puggaree I bought on Amazon.

Same hat, three different looks.

I like how versatile the hat is. The small changes give it very different characters.

I have a few “straw” hats that I’ll bring out from storage, but I’m just not as interested in straw hats as I am with felt. I also have a hard time spending real money on a straw since they never seem last long for me. I plan on wearing my same felt hats decades from now but I’ll be surprised if a straw lasts three years. I know others feel differently, but I’m always just a bit sad to put my felt hats away but I don’t feel the same when I put my straw hats in storage at the end of summer.

Oh yeah, and I hate the heat! Give me the cold any day!

I'm the other way around regarding the hats. Straw just seems to be a bit more fun to me. However, I'm more than happy to put them away, because like you, I hate the heat.

As soon as we hit that first 60° day, I'm counting the days until winter. A couple of feet of snow would make me happy too. I'd much rather be snowshoeing than wearing a nice hat. :-]

I feel pretty much the same on all counts. Truth be told, I do have one other straw hat but it's one of those cheap "tourist" hats that I bought just to offer some sun protection on a Caribbean cruise years ago, and I'm certain the only reason I still have it is because I haven't worn it since. I also much prefer my felt hats, but with summer temperatures here being regularly over 100°F and the accompanying high humidity those felt hats get pretty uncomfortable. So, Sunbody--more comfortable in high temps than my fur felts, decent sun protection, and won't bankrupt me.

Till then be well. Bowen

If you had to pay British prices for your utility bills you would suddenly develop a fondness for the heat. There again I suppose that the raise in blood temperature after opening the envelope...........................
If there's one straw that beats all others it's this one from Belgium. Made by the fair lady's fair hand.

Your kind compliment has gone down well with both of us. For me, well I'm always grateful whenever somebody comments about my choice of attire. But my missus was particularly pleased because she made the shirt and trousers. The pants, known as baggies, are a genuine 22 inch bottoms, made from an original 1930's pattern. You can get the more readily available 18 inch bottoms, but the 22 inch are as rare as rocking horse droppings.

The bike, by the way, is an unrestored 1926 Phillips model.
