Gentlemen:

May I first beg your collective pardon for my abysmal ignorance of hats. I'm unfamiliar with the cant of hat afficionados, but aspire to improvement. If I should insult your sensibilities by my relative ignorance, please bear with me.

I've recently purchased a Montecristi fino fino from Robert Weber and plan to, before summer's end, buy an Indiana Jones-sytle Montecristi, as well; however, my very next hat just must be a traditional outback hat. Can any tell me which hatters make a fine hat in this style?

I thank you for your kind replies in advance.

Regards,

Ray K.

Milton Johnson does a couple of nice hat styles in this style. A fino will cost about 500 to 1,000 dollars. No need to do above 750. His company, Montecristi Custom Hats in Santa Fe (see his web page) will make you any style stlye you want. He has been in the bussiness almost 30 years.

Fot the month of March he is discounting 25 percent.

For fur felts see Akruba (davidmorgan.com) at about 100 dollars. They are okay hats. Ritch Rand of randhats.com in Billings Montana will make you just about any style hat you want. He does several nice Safari hats and a few outback styles. He does custom work. A beaver blend starts at about 400 dollars (maybe alittle less) and 100 percent beaver starts at 600. With trim about 700.00. The 100 percent beaver are tops and very functional. Ritch makes top notch stuff ... none better

Billy Martin in NYC (Madison high 60s, next to JM Weston) may have some of Rands Hats. This will give you an idea of his work.

The 100 beaver is the real deal. Ritch has a great catalog. Call his shop at 800 346-9815 to get one. He does a Snowy River that is an Aussie style. I have that style by Akruba. Lots of attitude. His entire Outdoor Enthusiast line is safari style.

See if Rand can have your measures done at Billy Martin for a true custom fit.
