Ah, but in those days, anytime a TV viewing was announced to the public, so many people turned up that they had to take turns looking at the screen, which was always small (often teeny). So this would have eased the problem of a large crowd.

Grandfather Clock Radios

The so-called "grandfather clock" radios were a fad in 1931-32. Many radio manufacturers offered them and cabinet companies stepped in to provide grandfather clock cases for the radios that didn't.

By 1933, they had disappeared from manufacturer's catalogs.

Around 1980, radio collectors went crazy over these and prices shot up. Fortunately, prices dropped to a more affordable level after the frenzy subsided.

The Philco was always one of my favorites along with the beautiful GE Longfellow.

I've had this radio for awhile, but I don't know anything about it except it's a Zenith. The dial folds over and down and there's a handle on top. It's actually a dark gray color. Does anyone know in which time period this radio was made? Thanks.

It looks to be a Zenith, model 4-G-903, made in 1949.
