A Whippet with a thin ribbon??

Or you could just write with more clarity instead. Your second reply made sense. Your first was devoid of logic.

A Whippet with a thin ribbon??

?? Isn't the "model name designation" an indication of the very "quality," and "style" that you just told us to buy? Your whole sentence seems contradictory. Should we buy a Ford Pinto car onto which somebody affixed a Cadillac logo because we thought the Cadillac logo indicated the quality of...

Ebay Hats: Victories, Defeats, Gripes & Items of Interest

Well, I have to destroy something right now!!! I am so peeved at Ebay... I was about to bid on that gray whippet that ONLY sold for $150 bucks just now. I hit the bid button in the waning seconds of the auction and instead of taking my bid it sent me to the godsdammned login screen...

A Whippet with a thin ribbon??

I also saw the Borsalino with a Whippet liner. I think these are guys trying to mislead buyers. I am glad I got that confirmed by you fellows. People will do anything, won't they?

A Whippet with a thin ribbon??

I am very confused. An auction is up right now and it is a hat with a Whippet liner, but looks more like an Open Road-style hat… Here's the outside: and here is the photo of the liner… Did they ever make Whippets with a thin ribbon?? The sweat band has "Royal Stetson" imprinted...

    Richard Dreyfuss's Drunken Cabbie Hat

I am in Washington DC for a conference and some business meetings this weekend and I ran into actor Richard Dreyfuss. He was sporting a fedora and I took a few minutes to ask him about it… Turns out it was a pretty cheap all wool fedora with a homburg brim and a short crown that Dreyfuss had a...

    Rare Stetson "IMPERIAL" Open Road

So, the Imperial quality was the upper-mid priced model, then? Good to know.

    Rare Stetson "IMPERIAL" Open Road

Very nice. Of course, then we have to ask: What does "Imperial" mean? Now we are right back to wondering what the heck Stetson's quality designations really even mean again.LOL

Do you see your Indy hats as "formal" or "casual" hats?

Mostly agree except for the part about wearing fedoras with business suits since "since 40's on ward." It goes back a lot further than that.

    Post New Hats Here!

The brim on mine is 2-1/2. But I think I agree. The thing has the feel of 1950s to me.

    Post New Hats Here!

That liner shot look almost exactly like my lone Resistol fedora in my little collection. My photo cuts it off, but I have the Kitten Finish stamp in mine, too. My guess that this is a 1950s piece?

Do you see your Indy hats as "formal" or "casual" hats?

You know, this whole discussion of whether a fedora is "formal" or "casual" is only a modern problem. The fedora is itself a somewhat casual hat in the first place. The formal hat of the day was the homburg and the top hat and the more business hat was the bowler (derby). So asking if a fedora...
