I did *exactly that* yesterday :-P .
And then went for a walk across the George Washington Bridge and back. It was mad windy, but the breeze was unable to steal my hat.
My latest Ebay hat arrived. I took the plunge from only wearing straw hats during the summer to being willing to bid up this gray felt fedora. Now i just need to get up the courage to actually wear it outside where people i know may see me and ask silly questions about my religious...
«coughcough»
The "most modern of the Orthodox Jews" are the ones who see no religious significance in wearing black fedoras or any other particular kind of hat, as long as they're covering their heads with some form of yarmulka, cap or hat.
i fit my two straw hats one inside the other in a hat box and gave it in with the checked luggage. there's no way i'd be comfortable enough to sleep in a hat (i find it very hard to sleep if i'm not in my pajamas, i.e. a t-shirt and shorts)
beware: hippies
See, the problem is that i'm ambiguous about fur. It's well, fur, and if i'm enough of a vegetarian sympathizer to not wear a coat made out of dead animals, i feel inconsistent looking at putting dead animal material on my head.
I used to just have two straw hats, one casual and one more formal.
Then a certain friend (you know who you are, ahh??) pointed me here. And i started thinking, hey, maybe i should get a non-straw hat.
And then i absorbed some kind of anti-contemporary bias about how real vintage hats are...
on the inside of the sweatband there's a red 5 printed, and there's also a printed label stuck on the inside of the hat, behind the sweatband on one side, that says:
A2864
BISMUTO
76-55580
4 1/2
I got another hat of the same size in my Ebay binge... you can see it in this thread.
My third "Dumb Ebay Binge" hat came yesterday, it's a really nice-looking (or at least i assume once it gets back into shape) crushable gray (real gray, not like that other one) felt fedora... i just bid on...
action shots (well not quite)...
"too tall"ness. with a sad face :-( :-P
the only problem is that it sort of looks okay from the side, as far as i'm concerned. ;-) but the color is a bit too dark for me.
heh, fire... fire...
it's this.
there are two main problems with it:
1. the front of the hat is too high, no slope whatsoever.
2. it's way too dark for me. it doesn't look like the picture in real life, it's actually much more of a blackwards gray.
maybe i'll put some pictures up...
well, i do like fire, but i'd prefer not to waste it. the re-selling idea sounds good. this one cost 15$ altogether. i also bought something else that i'm not sure whether i'll end up wanting or not, which was a bit more due to international shipping.
