    Blackout Regulations

Just picked up on this thread. In Maryland, on April 28, 1942, the Headquarters, 3rd Corp., U.S. Army issued a General Warning for Worchester County, however it applied to the entire Del-Mar-Va peninsula. Vehicles running on roadways parallel to the ocean had to use dim-out lighting...

    Esquire's Encyclopedia of 20th Century Men's Fashions

Esquire's Encyclopedia of 20th Century Men's Fashions by William Gale, O. E. Schoeffler I am sure most of you are familiar with this reference book. I am only selling this because I need the money to do some work to my 36 Chevy. Published by McGraw-Hill, Inc. in 1973 (probable first...

Painted Flight Jackets - Planes, Names, and Dames

The back was one piece until I crossed my arms. It was not a seam, the leather was dry rotted.

    I remember when.....

I remember my Mother listening to Johnny Dollar on the radio. I remember the smell of the mohair upholstery in my Dad’s 48 Chevy (it came back to me with a lot of memories when I bought my 36) A 5 and 10 cent store in our small town A Mom and Pop store on every corner in our town...

Painted Flight Jackets - Planes, Names, and Dames

When I was still in High School, (1970), I found a painted flight jacket in a 2nd hand / rummage store. I was so excited I grabbed it off the rack and tried it on. I crossed my arms to check the fit and RRRRRIIIIIIIIIIPPPPPPPPP! The back opened up. I ruined a real piece of history in less...

    America In WWII Magazine

I have become disillusioned with the magazine over the past several issues. I have been a subscriber to the magazine nearly since it hit the stands. The writing quality has not deteriorated, but the subject matter, for the most part, I find less and less interesting. I submitted a story...

    Rare WWII Bill Mauldin?

I don't believe he went any further than the idea stage since the reaction was so negative. There are more Willy and Joe cartoons that appeared in Stars and Stripes that were not included in the books. I wonder if they are in a collection somewhere?

    Rare WWII Bill Mauldin?

Mauldin actually wanted to kill Willy and Joe off at the end of the war as an ironic ending to the series. His plan was to have a shell land in their foxhole and show a vacant hole.

The nicest comment I ever heard

While doing WW II homefront living history, I frequently have veterans tell me they admire my hat, suit and shoes. I have been told several times that my suit was what they wanted when they were young, but could not afford it. Also at Reading this year an attractive young woman wanted to...

Show us your Thrift and/or yard sale finds

If you can find the tri-angular fiber needles, and your reproducer will accept them, they do much less damage and give a mellow sound. I have a needle cutter made by Victor that you can use to trim them, like an old tobacco cutter, and get many playings out of each needle.

    Public Enemies

I have not seen the movie yet, only the trailer. What caught my attention right away was the car (of course). The car is indeed a 36 Chevrolet, but with some modifications. The wiper is above the windshield on the driver's side, not under and there are turn signals / parking lights on the...

    Civil Defense Helmet Refinishing

WOW! Nice Work! I can’t wait to see it. I should have taken before photos of the helmet before I cleaned and painted it. That was an actual WW I helmet I started with. I am fortunate in that I have access to a sand blaster booth. I turned the pressure down, so as not to blast a hole through...

When your told to put down the gun... DO IT!

Would a bartender please close the door on this thread? This has gone so far off on a tangent, that the fact that MPiccitto was just curious if the unfortunate individual was “One of Us” has been lost pages ago. Either way I’m outa here.
