Just checked out the M51 jacket but the one I saw yesterday was clearly an M65 in woodland with the hood concealed in the collar.
I´ve also seen distressed knock off versions but never in woodland.
The possibility of a field modification sounds plausible if buttons were less likely than velcro to attract attention.
As to those Italian jackets, I recall them available in olive green but very un-cool and cheap looking compared to the
M65.

Curious thing, but on the way to work today a guy got on the train wearing a woodland version
of an M65. At first glance much the same as you can buy anywhere except that this particular model
had reinforced elbows and buttons on the cuffs instead of the usual velcro fittings.

Just been watching The War Lover featuring Steve McQueen and Robert Wagner and must admit to being
somewhat puzzled over the small piece of leather hanging out on the right shoulder of McQueen´s B3 flight jacket.
What is the purpose..is it something to do with rank insignia?
I purchased an ex US army M65 jacket in 1980 from a surplus shop in Dublin for six quid...still have it and the insignia of The Big Red One infantry division..
Just been looking at the Chambray shirt on offer from QMI and its a lot
cheaper that the Buzz Ricksen version. Anyone with any info on these shirts

When you consider the aviators of the two world wars, its highly unlikely that the uppermost thought in their minds was belt marks on their leather
flight clothing..more like flak, cannon shells and shrapnel whilst dodging machine gun bullets.

Not 100 % sure but I think that George´s leather jacket went at auction for a fair sum a while back.
Its true that Brian Epstein dispensed with the leather jacket look and got them into suits but the Stones had similar
fashion problems.
