    Post New Hats Here!

I had posted this in the Western Hat thread, but I picked up this American Hat Company 20x Straw over the weekend at Best Hat Store in the Fort Worth Stockyards. I needed a new summer straw.

    Western, anyone?

I ate at Joe T. Garcia's a couple of weeks ago. Been eating there for decades. Hope you enjoyed the gardens and the food.

    What Are You Reading

I'm going back and reading some of John LeCarre's work following his passing. I just finished The Spy Who Came in from the Cold and am about a third of the way through Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy.

    Lost art of proper relaxation

I'll resurrect a dead thread. I strive for time alone every day, whether walking the dog, cycling on solo rides, or kicking back with a nice pour of a good whiskey. I like being alone with my thoughts. Last night was a good example. I spent the day with my elderly father, taking him to...

    On yer bike!

Thanks for the compliment - It took me a bit to restore, but I appreciate the fact that at 53 years old I'm riding my father's bike (the pump is also original, and I've still got the original purchase receipt and owner's manual). This one is the normal 5 cog freewheel and dual chain-ring for...

    On yer bike!

Hello all. I started riding again 6 years ago and after too many years away. As I was approaching 50, I started back on a flat bar road bike, but quickly went down the vintage steel road bike worm hole. I bought and sold a few and then recalled my father used to ride. I called him and asked if...

Here are my dressier boots. 30 yr old Dan Post Kangaroo ropers in black cherry. Resoled twice already. Kangaroo is very soft but very durable. They pair great with denim, chinos, and gray or navy suits.

What Are Your Favorite Books To Reread? / How Many Times? / Why?

Hemingway's The Old Man and the Sea (see my 12/27/20 post in the Hemingway thread). I've probably read it 50 times or so.

    The Ernest Hemingway Thread

In the days before smart phones and Kindles (I know, I know, but they're handy for travel), I kept a WELL worn paperback copy of The Old Man and the Sea in my briefcase for airport terminals and delays (I would usually pick up a magazine for the flight). I've probably read it 50 times in my...

    What Are You Reading

I just finished re-reading Thoreau's Walden, and am about a quarter of the way through Melville's Moby Dick. I'm taking time during the pandemic to read up on some classics. After John LeCarre's passing, I'm tasking myself to read The Spy Who Came in from the Cold and Tinker, Tailor, Soldier...

Great hat! Regarding the boots, I hope you get as much use out of your Bean boots as I have. I bought mine in 1985, and have sent them back to LL Bean twice for recrafting, including changing the rubber boots from size 9 to 10 as I got older. Still my go-to hunting and foul weather boots. I...

    Cowboy hats - opinions?

I put mine to work last night, keeping my head warm while sipping a really good Texas single malt whisky by my fire pit.
