I'm really enjoying the Bexley pens I've purchased (which are cartridge/coverter, not piston as I mistakenly posed earlier). So far I've acquired an Elegancia in blue, a Home Town--Columbus, a Columbus Pen Show 2013, and, an Owners Club 2014 in red. All write smoothly and reliably. I'm using...
First, let me say that I am at the early learning stage with regard to fountain pens. I've been browsing various forums to learn so I am just the at the beginner level. With that disclaimer, I would say that I like the Bexley Elegancia very much. Up to now my only experience has been with a...
I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with Bexley Pens. I bought a new one yesterday in part because my Mont Blanc has never performed well and in part because the Bexley fountains pens are made in my hometown of Columbus, Ohio. I've been using it continuously since and like it so far. Any...
Just received a new Simonds gray herringbone newsboy today. I bought a couple of his early models, when he was first starting out, which were very nice but Barry's current work is really fine. His stitching is perfect, the leather sweatband is soft and supple, and the bespoke liner is a nice...
Just ordered a new black/white herringbone with full leather sweat from Barry Simonds. Love my two early Simonds caps. Looking forward to the new one. Although I love fedoras, it's so windy in my part of the world a good part of the time that caps are a necessity on certain days.
I can second tommyK's comments about the durability of the hats. I wore my Stratoliner in a Christmas parade last week in falling snow. No problem at all--the moisture just beaded right up. No loss of shape or color as the hat dried.
Actually, now that you ask, mine does measure to 2 5/8ths.
I have a modern Strat, Sutley and Temple. I'm not sure of the felt grade on those hats but the Premiere Strat seems better to me than any of them but FL experts would be better answering that question.
I've never creased a hat before but this was pretty easy with some steam. I'd say the felt is a bit thicker/stiffer than my modern Strat but not hard to shape. The color is way off in this indoor photo:
I bought one fedora about 2 years ago because I got tired of walking bareheaded to court when it was snowing. One modern Stetson led to four more and five Borsolinos which led to 7 Black Sheep Hatworks and obviously I became hooked. Now, I rarely leave the house without a fedora. First. I enjoy...
My "Premiere Stratoliner" arrived at Hat & Sole as a special order Thursday and I picked it up today. First, pictures:
General impressions: The overall quality seems better than my modern Strat. I have no experience with vintage Strats other than to admire the collection the...
