The Hardest Noir You've Ever Witnessed

Yep, TCM has been showing it since March. It's been criminally unreleased on DVD forever it seems. Luckily we have Criterion to thank for putting it on the shelves next month! :eusa_clap A very cynical picture that's still finding its audience today. Easily Billy Wilder's darkest in my opinion.

The Hardest Noir You've Ever Witnessed

For sheer, gripping, hard-boiled noir I vote for "Ace in the Hole" (1951). Definitely.

    Location, Location, Location

Halloween ('78) was supposed to take place during the fall in suburban Illinois but was shot in the spring of Pasadena, California. I think they did a nice job. The only really "big" movie that was filmed in my small town is Grumpy Old Men. Oh, and the 4th Friday The 13th. [huh]

They're messin' with my Snake! (Plissken, that is.)

IGN: Escape From the Prequel? One of my favorite living directors. Imaginatively dead.

They're messin' with my Snake! (Plissken, that is.)

Well Jake, I guess it's your turn to mourn like I did for the Halloween remake... :( John Carpenter has officially sold out. It's unfortunate because he's one of my favorite directors. List of Carpenter remakes: Assault on Precinct 13 (2005) The Fog (2005) Halloween (2007) The Thing (2009)...

Indiana Jones & The Last Crusade, John Williams Vertigo, Bernard Herrmann To Kill A Mockingbird, Elmer Bernstein The Passion of the Christ, John Debney Halloween, John Carpenter Yeah, it's a pretty modest collection. [huh]

    Who is your favorite Bond?

I like Sean a lot. Roger Moore wasn't too terrible, though...[huh]

Make Your Keyboard a Type Writer!

I also thought some of the sounds didn't fit. After messing with the "Schemes" folder, you can customize the sounds to whatever you prefer. The program's not so bad if you do it that way. [huh]

PATTON ON AMC CABLE - 8PM EDT

If only AMC didn't edit their films... Fox Movie Channel shows Patton sometimes, and it's uncut.

    WW II movies

Well, I don't have any new movies to add to the list but I gotta say, Stalag 17 is one of my all-time favorites. I feel it blended stern drama and a little bit of humor quite well. I think a lot of actors should take a lesson from Holden's Best Actor acceptance speech for this film.

    Happy 100th Billy Wilder!

I'd just like to salute my favorite director today. Bill Wilder (1906-2002) would've been 100 years old today. TCM is celebrating today with a 6-film festival along with a brand new documentary, "Billy Wilder Speaks". Billy Wilder has directed some of my favorite movies, including Some Like It...

    Billy Wilder Hat Question

Hello everyone, Just recently I've become a big fan of Billly Wilder's work. I've been looking at pictures of him and I've noticed that he's almost always wearing a hat of some sort. Now I'm no hat expert by any means, but I'm curious to find out any information about the hats Mr. Wilder...

    Hitchcock

I'm watching The 39 Steps for the first time right now and it's pretty good! Hitch sure loved the "wrongfully accused" theme. But I'm not complaining. :)

    Hitchcock

Benard Herrmann's score in Vertigo is one of my all-time favorites! That's my next soundtrack. Rebecca is another good one that Hitchcock directed. EDIT: Oh, here's another movie I forgot! Rope. I believe it was Hitchcock's first color film. It's very interesting because the movie is supposed...

    Poll - How old...?

That Bates replica is awesome! It'd be really cool if they could have some moving shadow in the window at night or something like that.

Death of Actor Keith Andes - "Clash by Night"

This is amazing! This past month, I've been using TiVo to catch some Marilyn Monroe movies. I read this news in the paper while I was watching "Clash by Night" last morning! I couldn't believe it. As for the movie, it seems more of a B-type movie to me. Maybe I'm wrong, anybody else think...
