In general, the advice I've seen for her patterns is that the sizing can vary, so make a muslin. I haven't sewn anything from her Butterick patterns, but I've made things from her books and find her instructions pretty straightforward.

The neckline is a little different, but Simplicty has a retro pattern that might work http://www.simplicity.com/misses-miss-petite-1940s-vintage-dress/1587.html

How to cut a 1930s bob

I know this is an old thread, but I just got my hair cut and it works very well for this style. She did a blunt cut bob that reaches to my collar bones in the front. I have bangs that are chin length and then she used thinning scissors on the ends of my hair all the way around. This reduces the...

    Dealing with Divorce

Good for you trying to do more around the house! It can be pretty scary trying to figure a lot of this out. There are a lot of great resources on line, youtube videos, all sorts of stuff that can be helpful. I had to snake a drain last week and while it really wasn't that difficult, it helped...

I do understand, I've made dresses that look cute in theory, awful on me. I just understand where you were going with the process :)

I sew my own clothes, most of these are large enough for a dress or a skirt, a few can be blouses and the smaller pieces I use for facings and bindings. She had some great small pieces, as well as a number of quilt tops. I went back the next day and bought more (I justified this by cleaning out...

So tired of setting my hair every night...

Do you use a setting lotion? I have fine, thick, straight hair and I was amazed how much setting lotion helped my hair hold set. Also, having had both permed hair and colored hair (separately) I wonder if it's just the damage that helps the hair curl better with a set. Right now my hair is...

    Any ladies here shave 'vintage'?

Any recommendations of a modern safety razor? Looking them up on Amazon, there are quite a few to choose from

    Sewing failures

I have this wonderful 1930's pattern that was an awesome score off of Ebay due to a poor photograph and description. I've made two dresses from it that are just lovely, but don't flatter my size 16 no waist body. Which are less a sewing failure than a poor choice for my body type. I do have a...

When did the pin-up look take over the vintage esthetic?

I work at a live-stage theatre, so I can be a little more costumey with my clothing. I wear dresses that I've sewn, which are sort of 50/60's hybrids to be more flattering to my plus size body. Recently my (female--might make this read different) boss made a complimentary remark about my "pinup...

Fabric from an estate sale, 50 year collection of sewing supplies. The pile on the right looks vintage, although I'm uncertain about the tulip fabric--the colors seem modern. The three pieces on the left are definitely modern.

Why men used to be scared of shopping trolleys.

We lived in a big city with numerous grocery stores, but my mom would do a once a month trip where she would go to a sort of pre-Sam's Club called Barney's--sort of like a huge Aldi's, pretty much all canned goods in a big warehouse--and stock up on canned food for the month, which we would...

Why men used to be scared of shopping trolleys.

I don't know, I think there's a little more to the culture of using a shopping cart. I think it has a lot to do with encouraging people to do their shopping for the week rather than daily shopping. I know people who live in the UK who shop daily for the evening meal. Here in the US people want...

    Vintage Patterns?

I find both Etsy and Ebay to be good but if you really want a bargain, be prepared to hunt. With Ebay, not only is there a sewing category with a pattern section, there is a sewing section within the Antique Category and the Collectible Category, giving you three separate places to search. And...
