Back in 2007 I bought a 1934 Automatic Electric AE34 "Monophone" telephone, in rough shape, but very cheap.
The main body of the phone was damaged, but repaired in a somewhat sloppy way by the previous owner.
He told me that his mother worked as a nurse many years ago in a Toronto hospital and...
I've thoroughly enjoyed playing video games by Rockstar Games, this one seems like another hit.
On top of that, it takes place in the Golden Era, which I love to immerse myself in daily.
To be released in Spring of 2011, but I want to play it now. :eusa_doh:

Wow, here's a NEW silent film.
With live musical accompaniment performed by Wynton Marsalis, Cecile Licad and a 10 piece all star jazz ensemble. "Shot by Academy Award-winning cinematographer Vilmos Zsigmond as a modern re-imagining of early silent film, LOUIS is an homage to Louis Armstrong...
Anybody else here have a vintage fire extinguisher on display around the house? Would love to see them.
This is the only one I have, a nice handy little 1930s Pyrene brand pump-action extinguisher. Measures about 14" from nozzle to handle.
Also included is a 1930 newspaper advertisement I...
Thought I'd scan and share parts of my collection of vintage souvenir view folders here at the display case. I've only scanned the front and back covers so far.
I've loved looking through these booklets since I first stumbled on one as a kid.
I'm sure you've all seen this type of folder or...
I was driving down the road on August 20th and I noticed there was a guy selling things on his front lawn. Strange to see that on a Thursday, but whatever...
This old General Electric oscillating fan screamed out to me from the lawn.
I pulled over and asked him how much he wanted for it. He...
Felt quite excited when I picked this lamp up at a garage sale last weekend for a great price. Had wanted one of these for some time to go with my overall collection of vintage household stuff. Thought I'd share pics of it here with you fine folks.
Replaced a few of the burnt out lightbulbs...
Lately I've had vintage household appliances 'on the brain' because I'm in the midst of having my 1920s vacuum repaired.
So because of that, when I visited a thrift shop this neat old waffle iron from 1923 jumped out at me from the appliance section, priced at $4.00.
I snapped it up quickly...
Today I noticed that an old wall telephone I have in my collection has just turned 100 years old. So, I guess it's officially called an "antique" now, not vintage?
It was built in 1909 by the Canadian Independent Telephone Company of Toronto, Canada.
Abbreviated C.I.T.Co., the company did...
I recently took some better photos of a console tube radio in my collection, thought I'd share some of them here.
You can see them all and more in my Flickr gallery here
This is the highest quality radio that I have. McMurdo Silver certainly put a lot of nice touches on their sets. Chrome is...
I was amazed to have found this twelve-inch 78 rpm record album set from 1948 at a thrift shop in the summer of 2008 in great condition.
Thought I'd share it here, maybe someone in the Lounge will like to say something about their recollections of Murrow or comment on this record set?
The...
If you guys and gals don't already know, I have a small obsession with radios and the 1983 movie "A Christmas Story". So I thought I'd share an update and photos I took with the Display Case forum.
I won a 1940 Radio Orphan Annie Secret Society "Speedomatic" decoder pin, like the one in the...
Another record I recently found at auction was this promotional 78 record for Philco (pressed by Compo for Decca of Canada) featuring a couple of Bing Crosby's well-known songs.
Philco celebrated it's 20 Millionth radio set produced for the public in 1947. As a special...
I was very happy to win two 1940s era twelve-inch "V-Discs" at a recent auction, numbered 685 and 712, all labels pictured below.
I'd heard a lot about them for years and the artists that made these special recordings, but had never seen an actual one for sale up here in Canada until this sale...
This weekend I won a lot of three Big Band leader's signatures at an auction, for only three dollars.
I love Big Band music, so it was great to come across these.
One signature of Gene Krupa on one of his 78 album covers, one of Tony Pastor and one of Les Brown on matted photographs. All seem...
This is the second exhibit that I curated for the graphic design studio /gallery I work for in Toronto, called 54east. The 54east studio is the storefront for the ThinkTankToronto group - http://www.thinktanktoronto.ca/
The show is entitled the 'Art of the Album Cover'. I had a lot of fun...
Tonight is the 70th anniversary of Orson Welles & the Mercury Theatre's radio broadcast of H.G. Wells novel War of the Worlds that shocked much of the North American population on October 30, 1938.
Anybody here going to have a listen to the original broadcast tonight... possibly over a...
I bought this Lionel Hampton 78rpm record album set a few weeks ago, along with about 400 other 78s.
This cover wasn't in the greatest shape so I decided to to a digital restoration of it in Photoshop after taking a picture of it.
The camera's flash actually made it look in worse condition...

Hi all,
I'd like to invite you to join my very first Flickr photo gallery Group creation - the 78rpm Group.
I felt the need for the 78rpm focus because I love this golden age and it's recordings.

I know there are several record pools on Flickr, but...
