I use Kirk's Original Coco Castile Pure Botanical Coconut Oil Soap. I started using that my work was renovating and I had allergic reaction to all the crud they were putting into the air. Never gone back to anything else.
I see a listing on Walmart for 3 bars for US$12 or so.
I didn't realize how much work (to THAT level) went into the clothes. I have read other WWII spy books where the SOE made sure to include "pocket trash" such as ticket stubs, etc. to help fill out the persona.
I'm a little hesitant about using the toilet while in full view, i.e. the WC at home. However, I simply excuse myself and go to the toilet without ever mentioning about where I'm headed. Most people (mental adults anyway) understand you are taking care of a biological function.
Alright - Inkstainedwretch & Bolero: both of you need to write more. I would collect the 'chapters', put them together in a book & read it until the pages were dog-eared & falling apart.
Most of the ration experiments that I have seen are mostly the British/UK version. I want to research the US version of the rationing to see what that would be like.
For the record - I'm not disparaging the UK experiments. That rationing was strict.
I can't quite determine the lines of that dress, but it kinda looks like a version of the Tea at Two dress from Wearing History.

Due to it being A-kon, I would have taken this as flattery. Anime covers such a wide range of time eras. I'm sure that girl just KNEW she knew your outfit from somewhere but couldn't place it. At least she meant it as a compliment.
I tend to semi-style my hair up in a loose roll (pinned). Then put the snood over the hair.
ETA - I tried to find an example, but all I can find are examples where the ladies just shoved their hair into the net then pulled the net on....
I'm hoping not to have any or few sewing failures. I went out last night to Hancock & bought some Butterick & Simplicity patterns. I plan on sewing some of the 40s retro reprints before too long.
I have sew on sleeves - one correctly; the other inside out. I'm still not sure how I did that...
Funny part is that I don't dress completely in the 40s style although I can tell the influence on my wardrobe. I tend to wear my hair in the style. No one says anything to me; guess they're just used to it.
