Haven't posted in quite a while but here goes nothing. I think too much thought is put into A2 sizes. Go onto websites that show crew photos from say the 100th Bomb Group or any of the others and in my humble opinion you'll see the majority having a looser, more comfortable drape. Many times...
Andrew, I can see where you would think Cable and initially I thought the same but the epaulet stitching and pocket shape looked more Aero 18775 to me, but mileage varies as they say. Will post photos when I can.
Sorry about that Seb, it was the end of a long day when I was writing. The SM Wholesale A-2 is almost half the cost of some of the bigger named reproductions yet I will not use the word "cheaper" rather saying more affordable.
The ordering was painless and the jacket arrived within a week...
Been a while since my last post.
Still lurk but haven't really been terribly interested too much in the past couple of years.
I have an original and several reproduction A-2s from the big named manufacturers and might I add I have no problem with any of them.
After the Eastman book...
The Perry is awesome!
As to the color, there were many seal or "sealish" jackets made but over time the color tended to fade leaving behind a lighter shade...Aeros were/are notorious for this. There certainly were russet examples among Aero A2s, but many original Aeros nowadays described...
"Aero Flight" labels are their basic "house" labels, they are for basic, generic A2s that don't replicate any particular contract.
Incidently, I checked with Mark Moye (Aeroleatherusa) about the russet A2 as I think it looks great and he advised me it was in fact steerhide. He said he...
Fishmeok---I think your jacket is steerhide and not goatskin. Aero ran specials on certain hides they got a while back. They used "Aero Flight" labels as opposed to the 15142 labels.
Personally I think it looks pretty good on you.
Hoosier Daddy makes a good point. My russet real deal also is darned close in color to an original I have, though it's not an Aero original.
Many times the more chocolately looking Aeros are actually a faded seal color whose reddish undertones have come up so to speak.
That could be but I think maybe it's because the current milspec allows the synthetic knits and synthetic knits do this??
I would be upset at the pills for sure.
Belly Tank, I respectfully disagree with you. The gentleman asked which has the best cut. What style works for one individual may not necessariy work well for another i.e. some are longer in the torso than others, some wider in the shoulders, etc. which may not, pardon the pun suit everyone.
I found the opposite in FS. Yes they are fuller in the torso but their shoudlers are not overly wide per size.
In their M422A (which is really nice might I add) I needed my suit size as the sleeves are actually quite trim. Yes the torso is fuller but it gives a comfortable drape and once it...
The difference between the "real deal" and the "anniversary" has to do with the way it's matched, not quality of the hide.
Basically the "real deal" has the look of the "time"---the more matched hides is more expensive as they have due to more labor to match them.
Getting a smooth A2 to...
