Danish movie on the resistance in WWII

I think humour does a great deal to help people through times of adversity and stress. Anyone who has read anything I've posted here knows I have nothing other than respect and admiration for those who went into the arena. I enjoy the life I have because of what they did, and I don't need that...

Danish movie on the resistance in WWII

More information (serious information, please) would be welcome. Yes, the more serious the better. Please ensure your posts are absolutely 100% serious. What was I thinking. Cake decorators engaged on important war work is not a subject for levity. H. Johnson has spoken - heed his words...

Danish movie on the resistance in WWII

No, but in 1942 there was a clandestine recruitment of fish fryers who undertook secret work in the development of submarine prototypes. Apparently their familiarity with fish meant they had a natural affinity for building accurate underwater scale models. This crucial work was eventually...

ALL REPRO R.A.F. Irvin type jackets

That's good news, I didn't know they had done that. I think the nubbly wool on the Aero looks great - and now the waiting game begins..............:)

ALL REPRO R.A.F. Irvin type jackets

Sorry Soren, all I meant was that the arms on original Irvins (and Eastman's) reduce in diameter as you get nearer the cuff. I can't speak from experience but I don't imagine this would be a difficult thing for Aero to do? (Famous last words.......)

    QUIZ: The Few.

Well Soren, you'll have to forgive me because this is from memory! I thought Dizzy got his nickname for spinning his aircraft far too long......... I don't know if this is right and now I can't find where I read it:( Apologies. I haven't read Ten Fighter Boys - is that the one printed during...

    QUIZ: The Few.

It has to be P/O C.A. Bodie then Soren. He is mentioned a few times in one of 'Dizzy' Allen's books. He sadly did not survive the war. Some for your good self......... Why was HR Allen nicknamed Dizzy? And why was Donald Stone nicknamed Dimsie?

One reason why I would never buy from LOST WORLDS..

Kirby was at his best if he had Joe Sinnott inking, but I thought John Buscema did a pretty good job. And Romita's Spiderman, although never as iconic as Ditko's, was always excellent IMO. Ditko, he was an eccentric chap too ............ Objectivism, Mr A. .............

'WWII Behind Closed Doors: Stalin, the Nazis and the West'

I'd second that - it was shown in the UK earlier this year. Most documentaries involving Laurence Rees seem to be very good.

ALL ORIGINAL Irvin RAF type Jackets - Loving that Wolf in sheeps' clothing!

"Among my possessions was a fur-lined leather jacket which had once belonged to a Coastal Command flyer. It had been taken off his drowned body and the zip fastener was ruined by sea water. Because of it's morbid associations I wore it only on motor-bike journeys, but when Paul said his...

Why were the German's referred to as "Huns"???

With the greatest of respect, the source of your anecdote does not automatically preclude any accuracy as to this words particular entomology. I believe this inscription on the belt buckle was parodied by the English as " we got mittens too" and anyway the pattern dates back to at least the...

    WWII Combat Injuries

By all accounts, he was a remarkable man in many ways, before, during and after the war. Depending on the source though, he was said to be stubborn, intransigent and a monument egotist. The Big Wing theory was terribly divisive and remains so to this day. I always thought his accident was...

Secret footage unearthed of American troops practising D-Day landings at Devon

Please excuse my hazy memory, didn't some E-boats also cause many casualties amongst these troops at some point during their training?
