I've enjoyed https://hannahats.com/ since I bought a vintage 8-piece on ebay. With a new cap I started asking "can you do this, can you do that" and found they will do anything I've asked, like use a peak from a different model or leave out a liner or make a custom size.
If you can be adjacent to the hat shelf when buying, I imagine it would be less of a hassle, as you could select a hat in a size that would comfortably accommodate your head's longer than average shape regardless of your head measurement. I'm a long oval and in my view it will always be a...
That is a great crease! I've tried similar with my camp drafts with no luck. Jimmy Stewart wears a very nice hat in the movie "Bell, Book and Candle" where there's a center dent with a slight rise in the middle seemingly to accommodate the top of one's head.
My Akubra Camp Drafts were so stiff and thick I decided to "work" the felt a little and see what happened. I found they are so tough I could "work" the heck out of them with no ill effect and soften them up. They won't become like I imagine vintage felt must be, however I learned that I really...
I imagine to some degree it may depend on how "oily" a person's skin is, such that the more oil in the sweat, the more staining you get, as the sweat may evaporate while the oil remains and maybe continues to migrate. For me it shows up on pillow cases and the like, not on felt hats yet though.
She has really come a long way, a remarkable musician developing her talent! I remember her from early days at my friend Wayne Weikel's recording studio in Catawba, Va, a little north of Roanoke. Some of the best memories I have are of he and Nita's Christmas parties. Salute, Wayne, I know...
I have an older (maybe decades, ebay find) Hanna eight piece cap which is a medium, and should fit ok according to the sizing chart, however it's just too tight. I tried steaming and stretching, and it soon came back to its original tightness. I opened the liner near the snap and trimmed the...
To me, a thiner ribbon says "rural" or "outdoors" and I have two camp drafts that of course have ribbons thinner than the ones depicted by Eric, which I believe are in the more casual "playboy" style and might be a good spot between the clearly rural (to me anyway) style and the conventional...
I think you can count on everyone's advice to be good, and it's consistent with my experience reshaping an akubra hat sold by David Morgan Company (the hat named after an Australian outdoors-man). I really liked the brown of the hat and wanted to have the experience of blocking it, etc. I got...
Did you have to request the 8 panel configuration? I see on the Hanna site that it comes as square "patchwork".
...and never mind jonesy86, unless you would like to add something, as I just saw your review on the Hanna site :)
I bought one of these because I liked the color and wanted to do a reshaping project to see what that's all about. I got my actual size which is 58 and it ended up being too tight. I now have a head-fitting block of wood that is shimmed out with layers of duct tape that I leave in that hat. I...
I needed a hat to travel with on motorcycle trips, and ended up with a linen eight panel cap. Linen for the warm weather and the cap for portability. I was taking an Akubra Country Club and wanted to avoid having to accommodate it. (for the curious, and because I can't find any pictures of my...
