The Cleaning Clothes (vintage or other) Thread

Hello all! Feels like a long time since I've been around these parts! I need some advice. I have just taken delivery of the most beautiful two tone blue dress which I suspect is rayon crepe. It is handmade from older garments and very detailed (smocking, piping, all sorts). Thing is...

What Have You Acquired From Family?

Aside from a few genetic abnormailites and a tendency towards dipsomania, absolutely nothing.

Do you dress down to compensate?

Oh definitely, I wear my house dresses outside of the house and thus outside of doing the daily chores. The chores get done when I'm still in my pyjamas. I love pyjamas.

Excuse me Miss, do you Blog?

Right, I've been through and I think, have added everyone whose blog is still going. Sad to see how many have been closed. Mine is linked in my signature. I try to update at least once a week but somethimes that does fall by the wayside a little.

Shanghai'd Rita Hayworth-style pin curls in short hair?

Hi, I thought I replied to this earlier but my message seems to have vanished - how very odd. I looked up the hairdo as the link doesn't work for me, and they are definitely pin curls and quite a tricky set too. I would curl standing pin curls away from the face at the top and perhaps even...

Show us your vintage knitting and crochet!

I must admit I've block some things and not others and haven't really noticed a difference either way. I'm sure its useful for lace knits but for most things it doesn't seem too necessary.

No, these have been sitting about waiting to be seamed for a while! I hate seaming.

Collars - how to wear them?

Thanks all! I guess the issue is that collars were made for specific frocks rather than the other way around!

    Mad Men

I have to say, though I like the green dress very much, I think it is a real shame they felt they had to sex it up further by making it so very low cut.

Collars - how to wear them?

Hey there lovelies. I have recently become the proud owner of this beautifulpink embroidered collar but am just not sure how it would be worn (aside from around the neck, naturally!) What sort of dress / blouse would go with something like this? Any advice welcome.

Does 'beauty' always have to refer to women?

OK - to weigh in here. To me this is a section about beauty as in "grooming" and as such should apply to all BUT as there have been issues in the past with chaps coming in and making salacious comments the area was made women only (I'm assuming here, a bartender can tell me if I'm wrong). Is...
