I would explain why I have never seen the option. Thanks.

Ask a question, get an answer

Hi all. Been a long time since I posted here. Hoping for a recommendation. Like many of you, I really enjoy shaping my own crowns, so always try to buy hats with open crowns. When it comes to felt, these are easy to come by, I love my Akubra Campdrafts. But I really struggle to find straw open...

    The Bowler or Derby Hat

I see plenty of bowlers in London these days. Sadly, they are normally in the heads of people working for the local authorities to advise tourists and the like in the centre or on the heads of upmarket hotel doormen.

    Christy's of London

Karl, the brim of the County is not actually supposed to be snappable. It is supposed to be stiff like a Western or country hat, but Christy's do not otherwise have a suitable section on their website for it. The trilby designation is really not accurate for it.

    Akubra Campdraft

That's the dark brown one isn't it? I was planning to get one of those anyway, but I think they could do with a shade between that and the fawn.

    Akubra Campdraft

I wouldn't buy a black CD... but if they did one in navy, I'd buy at least two. Akubra could definitely do with some more CD colours, at the very least a black and a mid brown.

    Fear

There does seem to be something of a fashion for wearing hats at weird angles. I see lots of women in London wearing hats sideways or backwards.

Putting Together a Black Tie Rig

Just something to think about with regards to shirts with detachable collars - if you want to undo your bow tie at the end of the night and wear your collar open (I remember a specific picture of Tom Jones looking amazing like that), attached collars look better than detachable collars in my...

5 Hats for Life - Your Choices

Hmm... A fairly tough proposition. 1) My custom Leon Drexler homburg in navy. Can be worn with almost any dressy outfit I would likely wear. 2) Navy loden flat cap with folddown flap to protect my ears from the wind. I actually own three (two navy, one grey) and they inspired me to get a loden...

How do folks react to your hat wearing?

I actually had a you g teenager mutter yeehaw cowboy as I walked passed wearing my Campdraft in Clapham. Thankfully, I have a lot of friends admiring my hats (mostly women) who I am trying to tempt into making their own purchases. :)

    Sport Jackets/Blazers for Florida climate

Linen, whilst highly effective at keeping you cool, will wrinkle like an absolute bugger! Be prepared for a lot of ironing. Like Mathematicus says, open weaves are the most important thing to look for. I would add seersucker as a good material choice, especially for shirts, as it doesn't look...

Is it just my eyes, or is the ribbon on that at least half the height of the crown?

Bespoke caps... As a lover of flat caps I am sorely tempted.

Wasn't it something to do with China all the Australian fur, or something like that?

So what separates a homburg from a fedora structurally?

Deadlyhandsome, I'm glad we agree about crown creases not defining a hat. In answer to the question about ironing a snap brim flat... To me this would certainly make a trilby no longer a trilby (I would inclined to call a country hat or safari hat or something like that). I would have said that...

So what separates a homburg from a fedora structurally?

Interesting. I wonder if this is perhaps another UK vs US thing. I grew up with the term trilby, and use the for almost any hat sold as a fedora, regardless of brim width. If it has a snap brim, to me it's a trilby, so a classic pork pie is a trilby etc. I'm unaware of the term trilby being used...
