To revive an old thread here.
I just acquired these A-15's from Aero Leather via eBay. I already own a pair of their excellent 1936 pattern from about 2004. These have the same outstanding construction. What makes them different from Mark's pair, they are shearling lined too!
The early made ones under the Cockpit label weren't too bad for the era. (Late 70's to early 80's). Loosely based on the Perry Sportswear contract. If you find one with a correct box stitch hanger, buy it. These were true to size then. Mostly steerhide. They later turned into "mall jackets" and...
Yes, I had one of these too. Picked it up in the early 90's at a thrift store. It was the last relatively accurate A-2's Avirex made. I remember the Yeager commercials w/ him standing next to a F-20 Tigershark pitching the Delco brand. It was my 2nd A-2 (the 1st being an earlier Avirex). I took...
Turned out well! maybe a second job in costumes in the offing?;) For me, I just couldn't help from keeping mine spotless...guess it's my military training kicking in..
The original AM design for the gloves is a leather lining. Designed more for protection from cockpit fire than warmth. As with the USAAF B-3 gloves, it provided a level of protection yet allowed for 'feel' of the controls. Both services wore a silk lined glove underneath for a bit of warmth w/o...
Big J, you asked about quality? If you follow the link to the boots on the WPG site, you will see about a dozen reviews from customers. It should answer your questions.
I had a thin rubber sole put on my Aero's. I take them to Oshkosh every year. The smooth leather sole was way too slick..even with morning dew on the grass. Better traction on the wings of the aircraft as well.
The link for the onlinemilitaria above takes you direct to WPG site. I believe they...
John, a beautiful jacket for sure! I hope Aero is staying with this pattern. I didn't see it included in the product line yet. My only hang up on it would be the side adjustments. I would trim them back to the buckle or even have them reverse the direction. The modification may not be 'contract...
greedBay has so many disadvantages with sellers fees. If sold overseas the conversion fee and of course always shipping expenses tend to make buyers shy away. You have options..Classified here, Craigslist for your area.
The important thing to consider with a jacket like this. SEASON! If you wait...
I can't speak for the red lining in the A-2's...however, their Class A blouses were customized by lining in red silk.
This was a by unit custom and meant for in theatre only.
John, that's a beautiful LW. I don't think I'd miss the dark russet reinforcements of the early ELC ANJ-4. Seeing the collar on your jacket convinces me, I will opt for this over the M-445 any day. :)
It's not a G1 nor any military jacket.
It looks to be a standard civilian market department store jacket. It could be from anywhere between the '50's to the '70's.
The zipper pull likely dates it before 1970
You have a jacket that many on this forum can only hope to acquire someday. The RMNZ is one of the best constructed and accurate jackets out there...and to grab it for $550? Outstanding. It easily retails for over 3x that amount.
I have 4 repro and a few originals and treasure them all.
