AB deluxe update
Hello everyone.
Thought I'd chip back into this thread with an update on my ABD. I actually ordered mine on 7th July 2008 and found out today that I'm next onto the block. That's quite a wait, but hopefully it will all be worth it when that baby finally lands on my...
Alterego - would you say the hemp is looking like softening up any with wear?my hemp tilley felt like linen almost immediately, so can only think that akubra must have ladled on the stiffener.
Incidentally, I have a long, thin face and a prominent hooter as well. In addition, I'm six foot five, so in a hat I tend to stand out a mile! Luckily, i'm told I have a head for hats. I hope that's not the same as a face for radio!)
I'm just back from a trip to south Africa / Namibia / Botswana / Zambia, and I wore my akubra federation iv deluxe Fedora (from hatsdirect) all the way, and it was brilliant. It has a pretty high crown and a "stovepipe" look to it, but the brim and crown are actually pretty much the same as my...
Thanks guys.
I've heard that akubra's hemp hats are really stiff & surprisingly heavy and wondered if this was the case. My tilly hemp hat is soft almost like linen and was hoping the akubra hemp might be the same! Anybody care to share their thoughts on akubra hemp? (I think the Range is...
I was looking at the threads on here about the akubra Capricorn poly, and decided to ask hatsdirect if they could get a 62. Jenny told me yes, but also informed me that they're about to order a hemp braid Capricorn (for the australian summer so September time).
Has anyone got views on the...
Oh, it's nice to see Steve back on this forum. I've learnt heaps from him when he posts on COW, and it's good that he's now back and going to be posting on hats here too.
Incidentally, and for what it's worth, I've just joined Marc Kitter's waiting list for an AB deluxe. It's 14 months, but...
My Akubra Fed IV Deluxe has the plastic top bit - although I don't know if other Akubras do. I don't mind it and actually think it protects the top of my hat from my head (which generally touches it). As for the lining itself, I like them and think that they add a touch of class, but there's...
that's a good looking hat and you wear it well - - I'm not surprised you got compliments. I also like that photo a lot, with the chap on the right clearly on the beginning of a love of proper hats that he hopes will see him looking as good as the guy on the left!
The hat I got in Ecuador doesn't have a sweat band at all, and only has a horsehair band on the outside. No problems so far. (although to be fair, it's not as comfortable as the other Panama I have that does have a sweatband!)
Welcome and nice hats.
Have you thought about getting a hat form and gently stretching that slightly too tight hat? It really suits you and it seems a shame it isn't more comfortable. With a hat form, you can do it over a few days and a half-turn at a time, and you will probably be able...
Oh, I'd not seen this!
I quite like that comment about Blake whatsisface and Pete Docherty, but I'm not sure there's any need to take such a high-handed tone about their choice of headwear. I was quite surprised at the Glastonbury Festival at the end of June to see quite so many people in...
I hear what you're saying about the boots and being able to get a pair in Texas... but couldn't you easily apply the same logic to hats?
I'm just sayin'
;-)
well, they're made in Ecuador, but they're only worn there as special occasion hats and not something for everyday use.... the everyday hat in Ecuador is a (wool) felt hat in the spanish style, dating back to the spanish rule after the conquistadors when the hacienda owners made the people from...
Just so you know weberboy, hats are really, really addictive: get one, and I guarantee you will be hooked and boring all your friends with talk of bashes and turns and things like that. That's what happened to me, anyway.
Oh, and one hat is never enough... so be ready for that too...
you won't be sorry with that Fed IV, that's for sure. I've nothing but good things to say about Akubra full stop. If you hadn't ordered a Fed, I was going to say that if your wife was heading out Katoomba way (beyond Sydney in the Blue Mountains, so not quite Melbourne) then she could pop into...
I'm the proud owner of an Akubra Fed IV. I love my hat to bits and didn't think I would trade it for anything in the world.... and then when I was in London at the weekend, I tried on a Herbert Johnson Borsalino. Now, I decided not to buy this hat as I didn't think it *looked* as good on me...
Australia is an amazing country. I loved my short visit (highlight being the week I spent in the Northern Territories), and I can't wait to go back. I plan on wearing my Akubra fur felt (a Fed IV) all summer... not that an English summer really compares, but it's coming to the Glastonbury...
