Reshape an open crown hat into a Bogie shape.

I had Art Fawcett make me a Maltese Falcon style Bogart hat a few years back, but you need a 6" crown which you have to bash down to 4.5" and thebrim is 2 1/4 to 2 3/8 or so. Here's my post when the hat was new...

    Hat articles and photos...

The Wall Street Journal published a pretty good article on men's hats a couple of days ago. Except for the ending (where they suggest cocking your hat is a no-no) it's pretty good. Also discusses the decline of the stingy brim...

Foldable, Packable,Rollable or Chrushable Fur Felt Fedora?

I believe Christies in London has one of the more popular packables. I had one made by Art Fawcett, but that can be pricey.

    Nehru suit in LA

Moderators: I think this politically oriented response should be cut since, after the first sentence, it has nothing to do with my question.

    Nehru suit in LA

Anyone know a tailor in the LA area who can do a bespoke nehru suit (not a tux, a suit)? Thanks.

Hats with soft or supple brims... who makes them?

The hat in my avatar has a wide floppy brim, but its a custom from Art Fawcett. It's based on hats that the artsey crowd wore in the 1920s. Mine isn't 3". It's more like 2.5".

QUESTION: Akubra Federation IV Deluxe - sun exposure??

I think you'll have to be more concerned about sweat stains than sun fading.

    Akubra Overload

Just bought my wife one of these. A very nice fedora, and the current exchange rate is great!

Art Fawcett VS Hall of Fame

I'm with you. Granite has brownish undertones and so looks good with earthtones and purple. It looks poor with blue. That's why I picked up my blue smoke jazzman.

Art Fawcett VS Hall of Fame

Wow. I've been out of the country for a month and the whole site's changed. Art: Hope all's well. I wore the midnight blue version of the Stendahl (the hat in my avatar) and received many nice compliments. Even in Milan!

Indiana Jones and the Adventure of Archaeology

It's a great exhibit, especially for kids, but also for fans. They teach archeology with a combination of real archeology and tie-ins and artifacts to the movies. Great fun.

    Stetson in Los Angeles

Sadly, I don't know of any stores in this area that carry real hats.

    Art Fawcett fedora 23 1/8 - falls between 7 3/8, 7 1/2 hat sizes

I'd say just have Art trim the brim. But how high is the crown?

How do folks react to your hat wearing?

Most of the compliments I receive on my hats come from the ladies. That tells you something. When guys compliment me its usually followed by, "I wish I could pull that off." I try to convince them anyone can. Hopefully I'll succeed sometimes.

    Lightweight vs Dressweight Felt

I have several. In many ways they're better than a panama in warmer weather. They're OK in rain, but heavy rain is more of an issue. They do soak up the rain faster. If it's raining or snowing I wear a dress weight felt.

    1920s/early 30s fedoras

Looks like it could be, without the side dents. Also looks like Tom Baker's Dr Who. http://unbound.co.uk/books/escape-everything/updates/oscar-wilde-escapologist

    1920s/early 30s fedoras

I had Art Fawcett make up the hat in my avatar from the late 1920s or early 1930s. It was popular among the literary bohemian crowd. You can see it in my avatar, but the photo its based on is here...

    Mike Hammer's hat.

There was one episode where his hat caught fire so he needed a new hat, but he just couldn't get it to work. So he throws it on the ground and a car runs over it. Then it's ok and he wears it.

    Cattlemans crease

That's the crease I have on the VS hat in my avatar. I think it's very versatile. I based it on a picture I saw from the 1920s.
