I have one of those galvanized milk coolers! I found it on Freecycle, of all places. I was hoping the cooler our milk delivery uses would fit inside, but they use a large Coleman type cooler and it's too big.
My area (suburban Chicago) still offers milk delivery from one company. They leave a cooler on your porch for the bottles and pick up/drop off once a week.
My mom's best friend had a house with a milk door in the cupboard. It had a door inside so that milk could be put in from the outside of...
I've been slowly trying to build up my collection of 50s basics. I finally have a 49er jacket after quite a while of looking for one in a good color, my size, and a price I was willing to pay. Now a question about them....
Are the 49er jackets supposed to fit like a trim blazer or like an...
This was offered on my western Chicago suburbs Freecycle list:
'50s or '60s wooden (walnut) RCA Victor TV Console
(includes working turntable and radio). The TV is built into the cabinet. It is
19 inches and probably needs some tubes to get it to work. The stereo and
turntable works as...
Can anyone make a suggestion for a first pattern for an inexperienced seamstress? I have a (vintage) machine and have made very, very simple things like pajama pants. Stuff with lots of straight lines and no zippers or buttonholes.
I just picked up this pattern but am thinking maybe I need to...
This bird is amazing!
I LOVE pins. When I was teaching science I used to like to wear vintage or vintage look insect pins. I'll try to get a picture of my little collection and post it. I've been lusting after the Hattie Carnegie trmbler pins that show up on eBay but have never found one for...
Good thread! I'm in danger of becoming that woman with the smartly dressed toddler who goes out with mismatched clothes and messy hair, so I've resolved to make 2009 a year of more glamour and style. So....
1. Lipstick every day.
2. Learn pincurls and a few other vintage hairstyles.
3...
Mrs. Merl, I think it is also online.
Let's see...here is is. Hmmmm...it is MUCH cuter in person. And the clearance in store seems to be more than online.
I was at Target last night, and they have leather bomber style jackets on clearance for about 20 dollars. They were very Amelia Earhart looking and reminded me of this thread!
This is an old thread, but Pendleton 49er jackets have been mentioned recently and it got me started searching for one...
I gather the large abalone buttons and two pocket are clues to the older jackets, is that correct? And I read above that the Woolmark labels mean a jacket is from the 60s...
I ended up ordering these and am going to be returning them. I really didn't feel they were wide legged at all. More like a normal trouser width. Also, despite going by the size chart at Newport News, they were too big. So, I am exchanging them for a size down in the EXTRA wide leg. We'll see if...
