    Obama in Fedora

Ok, seriously, this was the last straw. I'm now cancelling my membership here. Why on earth does everything have to be made so political? I find this to be a particularly mean-spirited forum. There's a ton of great information and advice here, but it gets lost in all of this crap!

    Sewing Lessons & FAQ

Hi MissAmelina, I recently started using Lutterloh patterns and went out and bought the only french curve I could buy in town. It's nothing fancy at all, but I've found it to be so useful! You don't really need the special ones at all ... although they might be better quality plastic. I...

    Memories for a price

I sure do. It occurred to me sometime last year that what I'm really doing in all of those thrift stores is rebuilding my grandparents' house!

    Finding Vintage in Your Size

Oh, I love to gripe about this problem! I've got a 35" inseam, so I find it hard to find even modern pants that fit. I mean, it's REALLY hard! Vintage dresses aren't so bad, but it's awfully sad when I try on a beauty and it's more of a mini dress than was originally intended!

    vintagey walking shoes

Speaking of Clinic, I've been itching for a pair of these ... but they're a little pricey for me at the moment. They DO look comfy, though. http://www.tt-group.com/C99625.html

    Lipstick that stinks!

I was just about to pipe up and suggest L'Oreal ... but too late! It does have a scent, you're right, but it's not a nose-burning one, at least!

A question for the red heads...

Thanks, ohairas! My hair IS dyed a bit darker than my natural already dark hair. The summer sun will lighten it up a fair bit, though... so maybe I'll attempt red a few months from now - when it'll show up!

    The "Annoying Phrase" Thread

The point is that the non assertive and indirect and overly polite 'pardon' and 'sorry' are frowned upon and even despised (in England)as an indirect threat to the proper order of things as they indicate a failed attempt to 'rise above your station'.[huh] Wow, I guess I'm trying to 'rise...

A question for the red heads...

Hi girls! Excuse my completely non-vintage and just-playing-around photos (also excuse the lab coat and goggle marks on my nose!), but I've just discovered that I look rather good as a redhead! I was fooling around using this site: http://www.taaz.com/index.html which I heard about on some...

How did they keep their hair-do's from week to week?

Hi girls. Does anyone have suggestions for a good brand of hairspray that doesn't leave a lot of build-up on your hair? I've been trying to extend my sets, too, and am at the point where I only need to wash and set twice a week. I find the hairspray (which is so necessary to keep my hair in...

    Cold Cream- Brands and advice!

How long have you been using the regular Ponds? When I started using it a few months ago, I went through a week-long period where I thought it wasn't going to work for me - it dried out my skin quite badly! I stuck with it, though, and soon my skin adjusted, and it works great now! I almost...

    Vintage: An act of conservation?

One of the WORST things I've seen was at a giant yard sale a couple of years ago. Two ladies in front of me walked up to the seller with a complete set of early 50s dinnerware (I can't remember the pattern). It was pristine and beautiful and I gasped, realizing they were going to get the whole...

Show us your Thrift and/or yard sale finds

I went to visit the city I used to live in the other day, and had a glorious time in the thrift stores! This doll set (1942) was one of my favourite finds, although there was SO much more as well. Vintage earrings for a quarter a pair, a box full of vintage needle books for three dollars ...
