How do folks react to your hat wearing?

That's a great story. You did a very nice thing.

    I love the Fed IV!!

So, my softening of the brim break was successful, afaic. Pictures of it don't show anything so there are none here. For those of you who may not know what this means, the brim break is the angle where the brim begins in relation to the crown. Think of it as a 90* angle, although it isn't...

I pushed a diamond into this tawny fawn Fed yesterday. The center dent wasn't working for me anymore. Today I'm gonna work on softening up the brim break. I'll post if there's a difference I like.

Welcome and congrats. Be sure to either steam or spray it before messing with the felt. You'll do less long-term damage that way.

What is going on with this site???

I haven't been here in over a month due to the continual inability for the site to get me anywhere. Logging in just now, however, was painless. Hopefully it stays that way.

Like many others, I thought it was just me. Took forever to load pages. Then it was better. Then it was slow. Then it was okay. And so on. For weeks.

I generally use a spray bottle when shaping/tweaking hats. I have 4 Feds with no spidering.

An important part of not damaging felt is to not mess with it dry.

I don't know what the general consensus is, but I suspect that a flipped down rear is more Western, and a flipped up rear is more fedora.

Well, that looks pretty darn good. Just poke a diamond into the top of that and, voila, taper will be gone.

The problem with a cook pot is that it's round, not oval. I don't know how that'll work once its off the pot, creased, and back on your head.

Thank you kindly, LC. There's not much that I know of that looks or works like a hat block. One of mine is plastic thing I got online. It works well and wasn't expensive. Here's where I got it: http://www.hatshapers.com/ I got the classic dome. When I got mine, all these sizes weren't...
