Wow, stop visiting for a while and the whole place change! Here is the correct link being referenced (at least I think it's the right one):

You are correct JTL - the light is washing it out a bit. I've been busy as all hell and haven't had a chance to take a studio shot. If I get the chance I'll take a shot and post a pic.
No model Blackthorn, just a discussion about what I did and didn't want. That's what makes dealing with Art so easy. I just said I wanted a straight open crowned hat with dimensional brim. Told him how high and how wide I wanted it. The approximate height of the ribbon and asked for it to be...
About a month ago I got my first (hopefully not last) Vintage Silhouette hat. 5 1/2" open crown with dimensional brim. Blue Smoke with dark blue ribbon and purple liner. Not to sound patronizing, but after having this hat for a while it's clear why we call Mr. Fawcett "Art" and not "Arthur" -...
I concur. A blast of steam from an open kettle, shape and then hold until the felt is cool again. That should help shape the hat again. Don't try to shape it all at once, work on the crown, the pinch, etcetera.
A month or two back I got caught with my Fed IV (the one in my avatar) in a torrential downpour. It didn't lose it's shape, but it was soaked all the way through. I make sure I didn't have a funky dents in it and just let it dry naturally over the day. The only change was that it was even softer...
Yesterday we had temps of 22 C, but wind gust of 80 K from the north.
Today it's pouring rain.
Forecast for Sunday - Low of 9 C.
Panama? Only in my dreams
Blue Smoke or Whiskey?
Can't help you Kaosharper1 - I'm in the same boat except I'm torn between going with a Blue Smoke what will be a little more "business" and a whiskey that will be a little more "casual". I have no idea what to do but I've got to get a decision to Art by Monday. Oh my....
I just came back from Montreal and visited Henri Henri and everything that other loungers have said was true (there are a couple other threads). It was like a play...
I walk in wearing my Akubra Campdraft and the young man at the front compliments me on it, we chat for a minute and I look...
On my recent trip to Montreal, I kept mine on the floor by feet - never had any issues. Didn't get dirty and I didn't step on it either. For a while I wore it over my face while sleeping, but 80% it was on the floor. I wouldn't put in in the overheard for fear of things moving in flight and...
Got 4 CDs and in typical Akubra fashion they are each a little different. Some were butter soft out of the box, other's like cardboard. However, after a little work they are all soft. By work I mean that after shaping them with a little steam I bent and flex them and give them a good misting...
Been wearing glasses most of my life and some have been cool, some less cool. Actually my ex once told me that if I got one more pair of gold rimmed glassed I'd never get <BLANK> again. What I will tell you is be careful of your Oakley's (yes they make prescription glasses too).
My Oakley's...
Like Not Bogart13, if I'm wearing my Indy hat (Fed IV with a purposeful ROLA crease) I have to accept the Indy comments. BUT it bugs the hell out of me when someone makes an Indy comment when say I'm wearing a grey Campdraft and a corduroy jacket. There's nothing Indy about me except we both are...
Fondle it...
When I get a new Akubra and after I've shaped it, I rub and bend the hat until it softens up. It only takes a few minutes, you just have to believe that squeezing the crown with your hand a few times won't kill it (it won't). I'm not talking about beating the hat up, but popping...
Dr. Jones?
While wearing a fawn Campdraft, zip up tan sweater and jeans and heading to the Home Depot someone called out "Hey, Dr. Jones!". I suppose it's better than "Indy" (I expect that when I wear my Fed IV in a Raiders crease) but still - how exactly was I Indy like while wearing a thin...
It only takes a couple of minutes at most after steaming for the felt to "set". I've had a hat show up with a big dent from shipping. Steam it for maybe 10-15 seconds in the area and work the dent. Hold for maybe a minute until the felt cools. Repeat as necessary.
As long as the hat is fur not wool felt, steam will fix it. While a block would be nice, a good blast of steam, then use your fingers to press the dent out and hold until the felt cools should be all you need. If the hat is wool, it's a different story - steam will shrink it.
It's nice bash and it looks fine (brim wise) with your face. Getting used to the broader brims can be a bit scary at first, but soon you can't picture them any other way :)
